The marketing department is shrinking, rapidly.
Here's why it matters to you...
The days of agencies having a strategist, senior media buyer, junior media buyer, and someone taking care of reporting are gone.
Now, one strategist or senior can do it all.
The days of internal teams needing 4 layers of 'doers' are over.
AI agents can do 80% of the 'work'.
All it takes is the right strategic and creative mind.
From an ecom perspective, here are the nuances:
- Shopify are moving to an AI builder, so you tell it what to do and off it goes (bye bye developer)
- Meta are increasingly edging towards a world where a link to your product URL is all they need to perform (bye bye all but the strategist overseeing it)
- Google will become an LLM visibility engine, not traditional SEO
- Tiktok... hmmm, I'm over 40 so I'll leave this to someone else
Anyway, you get the gist here.
I'm NOT saying true expertise is dead.
Agents still need managing and refining.
Or that the tools are perfect right now, far from it.
But unless you move on this, you will be left behind.
Margins will shrink if you rely on human labour for problems that others have already solved with a 24/7 agent.
From a cost perspective, you'll save thousands.
A CMO and one internal marketing technician can scale up to ยฃ5โ10m, if theyโre sharp.
The new marketing team: 1 brain, 1 bot, and a big vision.
