We're feeling increasingly saddened by the news of so many local small businesses struggling in the current climate...
Well done to Over The Moon Scents for speaking out and having Emma Hardy speaking up for us all today..
As usual, the message went unheard, but we can all support each other by sharing posts and our local businesses.

*** SMALL BUSINESS NEEDS HELP NOW!!! ***
I have thought very long and hard about posting this but I feel I no longer have the option.
The last time I posted about the state of things for small business someone commented that I was desperate …. DESPERATE!!!!
YES I AM DESPERATE - to keep my staff in their jobs and not to lose everything I worked so hard to achieve.
When you start, run or own a small business you literally give it your all. It’s your baby, it’s blood, sweat and tears. The knock backs and hard times hurt but you carry on as best you can.
Over the last 6 years I have truly given it my all, my husband has, and my team has.
And our customers … well they have been simply amazing. Many of you guys are now friends, you are our community and we love you.
AND NOW I SIT HERE WATCHING IT ALL SLIP AWAY!
My customers are normal ordinary working people who treat themselves with what they have left after they pay their way. But when they can’t pay their way they cannot treat themselves. It’s logic and reality.
Last week we had our worst trading week ever. We normally have a great Mothers Day week each year which helps us in quieter summer months but that didn’t happen. If nothing changes I will have no other option to close.
I find myself working 7 days a week in our other business trying my hardest to keep Over the Moon Scents afloat and alive so we don’t have to close. And it’s taking its toll. It really is. (Massive thanks to you lot who have helped me do this in the last 6 months by being my customer there too).
But this isn’t about getting the sympathy vote or the getting the violins out for me.
I keep telling myself every week that something will happen. The government will see how the crisis in this country is killing our small independent businesses. Something will be done. But they are not doing anything. And I don’t think they ever will.
‼️THEY SIMPLY DO NOT CARE ‼️
Do they want small business to close? I think so. They want a cashless society where everything is traded online and we all sit at home like robots. Not enjoying our local community and our high street. Our government are rich elitists with no link or understanding of the working class people in the country. They are out of touch.
How many closures have I seen in the last week?!!
Too many …. Crofters, Hummingbird Bistro, adjusted hours in other businesses, and hairdressers galore. My wax groups are full of people closing up. We lost our bath bomb supplier because they had to close.
WHY AM I POSTING THIS?
I think it’s time we shouted out about this terrible situation. If you have a small business I want you to join me in shouting. Or if you agree I want you to shout with me. I really despair of the government, I am not sure we can do any good but is it worth a try….. YES!!!
Let me be very clear …. me losing my business is nowhere near as bad as struggling to feed your family or keep your house warm before someone pops along to tell me this. I know this!!!! My heart goes out to those who are struggling.
I just thought it was worth a shot.
