So you want to be an influencer?
If you want to get your first 100,000 or 1M views post then there are a few things I’ve learned that might help you get there.
First of all— with Facebook these days you need to build momentum—
It’s very unlikely you will go viral off a single, amazing post.
Second of all— forget the share button. It’s dead to you now…
You CAN repurpose content, but you need to be very careful about it as repeated pirating others can get you punished with restrictions by Facebook AND can land you in legal trouble if you are in breach of copyright rules.
Make sure you are following fair use best practices if you are screenshotting or downloading pre-existing content for parody or critique purposes etc.
Keep external links to the comments— Facebook wants people to stay on Facebook, so posts with external links in the main body will be killed, instantly! Keep your external links out of the main body of your post and instead direct readers to the comments for more info.
Use images— although not necessary if your story or hot take is stong enough, but an image always helps—
Even better if it contains some human element,
A face,
A hand…
Be controversial— Facebook rewards interaction but shares, tags, and comments all carry more weight than simple likes. Being controversial or contrarian might be polarising— but people heatedly debating in your comments section is gold for your reach.
Talk about current topics, or subjects people feel strongly about— see above…
As with controversy, anything that people feel strongly about will usually get people sharing their opinions— for better or for worse.
Use emojis sparingly.
Compound your success by utilising as many of these rules as possible in every post.
Forget hashtags— they are dead and just narrow your audience.
Share! Share! Share! —to as many pages and groups as possible, send it out in private messages, and of course prompt your friends, family, and any other followers to support you by doing the same.
Once posted— come back in a few hours and pose an engaging question in the comments to further push engagement and reach…
Be sure to comment back to everyone who comments, ideally with a thank you for engaging, and a question about what resonated with them or why they commented or shared.
Save this post for later or share with a friend who could use some help with their reach.
