You've decided to go with WordPress for your website, and so you give it a quick Google and see http://WordPress.com and WordPress.org... which should you using be choosing for your business?

Here's a lowdown of which is which:

WordPress.org is an opensource software which you can download and use for the foundation of your website on whichever hosting platform you decide to go with. WordPress.org is free to download and use, but you will need to pay for your hosting and maintenance.

WordPress.com is essentially a blogging platform which has simple WordPress functionality. This is a paid for subscription, and you have less flexibility on the things you can do on this version of Wordpress.

Okay, choose your hosting platform, then use WordPress.org. You'll be able to do almost an infinite amount of things to make your website the way you want it.

Own a website on WordPress? If you do these three things this week - you'll make sure your website is more secure.

1. Keep your theme and plugins updated regularly.

Most security problems on WordPress come from plugin vulnerabilities. If you keep everything as up to date as possible, you're stopping anyone trying to access your site through these sneaky means!

2. Use a good security plugin.

i.e. WordFence or iThemes. These types of plugins are a must in 2022 for any sort of website. You may think 'I'm not exactly Adidas, why would a hacker want to enter my site?' … because Adidas probably has spent a LOT of money on securing their website, whereas hackers are betting that you probably haven’t, and you’d be surprised after you set it up how many attacks your security plugin saves you from each week!

3. Change any ‘Admin’ users to something else.

It’s a bit like using ‘Pa55word’ for your password. ‘Admin’ is the number one username every hacker will try on your website first to see if they can access your site, so just this one simple change will make the hackers job slightly harder, and even make them move onto the next site instead of trying harder to access your site!

OKAY, so I say ‘attack’ and ‘hackers’ a lot above, but really all I’m saying is – Spend a bit of time doing these little things when you have a spare hour, and it will make a WORLD of difference to the security of your WordPress website!

Happy St. David's Day (Dydd Gŵyl Dewi Hapus)!

The story goes that once, St David (or Dewi Sant) was going to preach to a large crowd in the village of Llanddewi Brefi.
The crowd was so large that the people at the back of the congregation could not hear him, or see him. As if by magic, a white dove appeared and perched on St David's shoulder. The ground beneath him began to rise up into the sky, and everyone in the crowd could now hear and see him for miles.

Luckily, things have moved on a little since the 6th century! If you have something to say, you don't need miracles to connect with your audience. Instead, you could use Facebook Ads*

*No doves necessary.

Yes, more changes are afoot and this one will be useful for anyone who manages a page. 🔎⁠
⁠
Soon, Page Likes will be a thing of the past and we will instead have solely "Facebook Followers"!⁠
⁠
It's been a bit confusing lately with people being able to 'Like' your page, but unfollow any of your content and vice versa, so Facebook is going to simplify the process.⁠

❓Now, what do you need to know about this change?⁠
⁠
The 'New Pages Experience' will be rolling out across Facebook in the next few months.⁠
⁠
👉 It will be optional for you to switch to it, and you can switch back if you change your mind.⁠
⁠
👉 If someone 'Likes' and 'Follows' your page at the moment, they will continue to 'Follow' your page if you switch.⁠
⁠
👉 If someone 'Like's but does NOT 'Follow' your page, they won't be included in your page followers if you switch.⁠
⁠
👉If someone doesn't 'Like' you but 'Follows' you, they will remain a follower⁠
⁠
👉If someone new 'Follows' you in the New Pages Experience', but you decide to switch back to Classic - you will continue to have that person as a follow on your Classic Page.⁠

❓ So should you switch or not?⁠
⁠
Organic reach is definitely a difficult task on pages, and very few of your actual followers see most of your posts anyway, so by moving to just followers is a sign of moving to a more engaged audience, which can only be a good thing.⁠
⁠
NOTE: If you DO move to the 'New Pages Experience', it means that some people that will have followed you in the past may not realise they aren't following you, so in order to make the most of this change it has been advised to run a boosted post (sponsored message) to your page followers telling them of the update and asking them to Follow your page.⁠
