Bullseye Buddies

How do you target your customers and make them feel valued? Precision Matters: Make Your Gifting Count

A couple of weeks ago, I was standing in a farmer’s field with some of my 41 Club friends, enjoying an evening of clay shooting. Bathed in the golden light of a mid-August sunset, the view across the Warwickshire countryside was spectacular. It was the perfect setting.

Starting with clays and taking aim with a double-barrelled shotgun, we then moved on to paper targets and airguns. And that’s when it happened - two shots landing so close together they looked like one. A perfect grouping. My very own Bullseye Buddies.

Out on the range, the goal is accuracy and being as close to the centre as possible. In business, it’s no different. We all want to get close to our customers and clients, to hit the bullseye by offering the right help, guidance and solutions at just the right time.

At Brand Boxes, that’s exactly what we aim to do. We specialise in creating perfectly crafted, tangible assets that make a lasting impression. Whether it’s corporate gifting or product packaging, our boxes are designed to make people feel valued and to deliver memorable unboxing moments.

Our design team loves nothing more than working with clients to find the right solution to a challenge. Just like a well-aimed shot, we help you deliver with precision, style and impact.

Here are a few examples of the issues some companies have faced and how we’ve helped them solve their conundrum:

O’Flanagan Homes: “We don’t have a credible handover pack for giving our new homeowners their keys.” The solution & video link: https://youtu.be/-0Ig_bAgikw

Barnt Green Travel Lounge: “What do we have to say ‘thank you’ to our high-ticket travellers?” The solution & video link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UxAI8L9YlE8

Pergola Drinks: “We’ve got a great product, we just need a beautifully made presentation box to complement it.” The solution & video link: https://youtu.be/1pJ3C5xrV2o

Porsche: “We’re looking for a prestige way to congratulate our ‘hole-in-one’ winners and present them with their Porsche keys.” The solution & video link: https://youtu.be/OyD3_WfXgCU

If you feel like you’re firing blanks when it comes to gifting or packaging ideas, I’d love to help you hit the target with something truly memorable. Get inspired by visiting our Brand Boxes YouTube channel, reply to this email, or get in touch via our Brand Boxes website.

I look forward to speaking with you soon.

Here’s an ace fore you…

At Moo Design, we pride ourselves on delivering unparalleled luxury unboxing experiences, and our latest project showcased just that. We were entrusted by Majesticks GC, one of the elite teams in the LIV Golf structure, to create a stunning Invitational Brand Box for their upcoming Pro Am Golf Event at the prestigious JCB Golf & Country Club in Staffordshire. This event saw 36 UK and Europe-based celebrities receiving an invitation that they wouldn’t forget in a hurry.

A Bespoke Invitation Like No Other
Majesticks GC envisioned an invitation that went beyond mere paper, aiming to deliver a luxury unboxing experience that resonated with their brand’s prestige. Here’s how we brought their vision to life…

Curated Contents
Each Brand Box was packed with useful Majesticks GC branded golfing items, carefully selected to enhance the recipients’ excitement for the event. Inside, they found a high-quality baseball cap, pristine white wooden tees, a JCB Golf & Country Club Yardage Book, and a sleek white pencil. A personal touch was added with a hand-written invitation card and a montage base in the box – featuring the four Majesticks GC team members: Henrik Stenson, Ian Poulter, Lee Westwood, and Sam Horsfield.

Our Creative Process
Our journey began with a hand-drawn sketch, capturing the essence of the Brand Box. We then collated the branded golfing items and chose dark blue paper stock for the internal and external of the box. Adventura matt blue foil blocked Majesticks GC logo on the outer lid. The box design included a full-colour inset and a printed invitation card inside the lid, ensuring every detail aligned with Majesticks GC’s brand guidelines. Finally, each box was carefully packed into an outer carton, wrapped in bubble wrap and white paper, and delivered via overnight courier to individual addresses.

Delivering Excellence from Sketch to Doorstep
Our goal was clear: to demonstrate our ability to produce high-quality invitational boxes for prestigious events, from initial design sketch to doorstep delivery, in under three weeks. Our process and attention to detail ensured that each recipient experienced the WOW factor upon unboxing.

Mia Baker, one of the Pro Am invitee’s commented on her Insta Reel: “this is a pretty cool box… thanks!”

Measuring Success
Success for us means that our clients, like Majesticks GC, feel consistently confident in our ability to handle the entire process seamlessly. We aim to ensure that we work effectively with external design teams, adhering strictly to their brand guidelines, and produce Brand Boxes that are purposeful and luxurious.

If you are looking to tee up an event this Autumn, then please do reach out to us to discuss/collaborate on designing your perfect invitation package. Let’s create an unforgettable unboxing experience for your next event, ensuring it’s as prestigious and impactful as the LIV Golf Pro Am Invitational.

Just plug it with matchsticks

The last two weekends have been an absolute horror show, full of frustration and angst… The culprit – DIY!

Diamond Driller!

The first weekend was spent re-affixing a blind above one of the windows in our kitchen. Who would have thought that a concrete lintel could have been so stubborn and energy sapping! Even with a borrowed Titan Magnesium power drill (thank you Grundy) and purchase of some new drill bits. Needless to say, I managed to eke out three holes, each an inch or so thick to stick a raw plug in. Then found to my horror that two out of the three raw plugs, weren’t a snug fit and a bit waggly.

My intuition tempted me towards Polyfilla – useless in this instance! It wasn’t until I shared my irritation with some friends on the way to play some mid-week Padel tennis, that they gave me the simple solution… “hammer in some matchsticks around the raw plugs and that will keep them secure.”

Thankfully, the advice was first class. Match sticks were duly hammered in and job done. More importantly the blind is functional and still hanging above the window – a rock solid job!

Hidden Tracks…

I was just putting the tools away – feeling pretty accomplished – when Chris, my wife, asked me to take a look at another curtain job. This time in our lounge.

“I can’t reach it”, she exclaimed. “OK I’ll take a look”, I begrudgingly replied. I took a look and wondered where to start?

To set the scene – a pair of curtains with separate draw cords either side of a bay window with a pelmet overhang. After much prodding and poking I worked out that the curtain track had hidden pulley wheels within it. Doh!

The excuse… Difficult to see when the curtain track is secured to the wall and immoveable under layers of gloss paint. However, after another broken cord, finding the hidden pulley wheels, tweezers, a hammer, a few YouTube videos later, some new curtain cord, and working up a ladder in all sorts of postures… Let’ just say conservatively a few hours later, said curtain was gliding beautifully along its track once again!

Phew! The DIY saga was over for now – hoorah!

The lesson here is to consider the time/resource vs outcome balance. Sometimes it might not be the best strategy to do it yourself!

10,000 Hours of Practice

It is said that 10,000 hours of practice is the key to achieving true expertise. Malcom Gladwell in his best seller – ‘The Story of Success’ – repeatedly refers to this rule and cites, “in any skill, it’s simply a matter of practicing, albeit in the correct way, for 10,000 hours.”

Clearly my expertise and knowledge in DIY is severely lacking the 10,000 hours required to be a dab hand at it.

Adopt, Adapt, Improve

Conversely, at Moo Design (yes we’re still learning, adopting and adapting) we have the 10,000+ hours of expertise under our belts, the knowledgeable team and excellent resources to devise solutions, create, design and build stunning and innovative solutions to customer challenges.

It’s All About ‘The Base’

When Glatthaar Keller – the market leader in basement construction – approached us with a request to re-engage with one hundred of their dormant clients. We didn’t hesitate in taking on their brief. We were provided with some corporate branded items that echoed a bygone era. Those essentials that would bring a nostalgic smile to a craftsman’s face. Namely, a wooden folding ruler, carpenters’ pencil, ballpoint pen, scribble pad and two business cards.

The brief, was simply to house the branded items in a beautifully crafted presentation box that would be easily despatched and delivered to each client.

With a couple of weeks we had built two stunning prototype presentation boxes with lids for the client to view. See images above and videos below:

• ‘Graphite’ Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vp1U_ctqJjs

• ‘Concrete Effect’ Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CSAwK1jUy0c

Wot No Drama!

If you’re a business owner/marketing team looking to re-engage/impress your clients without the drama and hullabaloo of DIY, then please drop me a line and we can discuss how best to fix your conundrum.

P.S. Have a top weekend and please stay well away from the DIY!

Is Fernhill Drive Closed?

This is typically the last thing we ask the Race Director and those in situ before we start the Wright Hassall Regency 10K every year.

Fernhill Drive is the first traffic road the 2,000+ runners run up towards the golf course on their quest to complete the Midlands No.: 1 10K and Gold Awarded Race Check event.

The Regency 10K was the brainchild of Russell Hall, a local veterinary and former Leamington Round Tabler. Known as ‘Rusty The Vet’ to many. The event started in 2005 and has continued every year since. It’s a leafy run around the old Newbold Comyn Golf Course (now a bike track in parts), parks and roads of Leamington Spa – bordered by stunning Regency architecture and lined by hordes of cheering spectators and residents of the town.

Celebrating Our 20th Year

This year we celebrated 20 Years of this amazing community event. We have much to be grateful for. Wright Hassall – a well-respected local law firm have been main sponsor since its inception. Spa Striders – one of our local running clubs have provided the vast majority of the 250 course marshals required, with local charities and businesses making up the rest.
Moo Design provide their branding skills to market the event and produce the design and artwork for the event collateral: course signage, promotional products, runner’s T-shirt, as well as the much-loved A5 Booklet. This is sent to each runner prior to the event with their race number and timing chip. It contains an intro from the current Leamington Round Table Chairman, course map, runners’ notes, sponsor adverts, commentary from the previous year’s event and a listing of which charities and deserving causes the proceeds are going to in our local community.

It’s All About ‘The Team’

Leamington Round Table organise the event (along with hundreds of other volunteers) and I’m especially proud to have been part of ‘The Team’, along with Andrew Savage (41 Club Secretary), to have helped plan and deliver the event every year since 2005.

Sam Tyler, current Tabler and Race Director for 2024, said: “It was excellent to see runners and spectators alike celebrating the event’s 20th anniversary.

“There was a brilliant atmosphere on the day which demonstrated just how important the event is to the whole community.

“I would like to thank sponsor Wright Hassall as well as the volunteers and supporters who make this event possible year after year. We hope it continues to be just as successful in the years to come.”

Half A Million Raised!

What a headline… Since 2005 Leamington Round Table, have organised the event and encouraged over 32,500 participants to run the 10K around Leamington Spa. By doing so we have raised a staggering £500,000.00 for our local community!

Phil Wilding, Managing Partner at Wright Hassall, post-race said: “We are extremely proud to sponsor such a much-loved local event which makes a significant difference to good causes right across the area.

“This year’s event was a fantastic occasion which celebrated the run’s 20-year history, and I would like to congratulate all of those who took part.”

So Who Were The Race Winners?

This year’s race was won by Matt Scarsbrook, of Birchfield Harriers, who triumphed in first place with a time of 31 minutes and 53 seconds. A little way off the course record of 31 minutes set by the four-time winner, Ryan Kenny in 2009. The first woman across the line was Rachel Gifford, of Leamington Cycling and Athletics Club, who clinched the top spot with a time of 36 minutes and 33 seconds. Net Visibility won the Corporate Team title. Leamington C&AC won the both the Male and Female Team competitions. Alex Robinson, Partner from Wright Hassall kindly gave out the prizes.

Congratulations & Thank You

With our 20th year under our belts and all our participants having put their best foot forward to raise money for a variety of local good causes – thank you! Congratulations to everyone who has ever run the race and sincere thanks to our sponsors, supporters and the thousands of volunteers who have given up their time to make the event happen and be the success it continues to be.

For the full race results, visit www.regency10k.co.uk.

Here’s to our 21st Regency 10K planned for Sunday 6th April 2025.

Have a top weekend!

Packed in like sardines

A few weeks ago Chris and I were down in London for a long weekend. We used Hampton Wick as our base and travelled into the City to watch two raved about London Shows: A Choir of Men and The Wizard of Oz – both excellent in their own ways. We also had a walk around Battersea Power Station, caught a river taxi back to Putney, had a Vietnamese meal in Kingston.

Sunday Morning in Borough Market
But it was Borough Market on Sunday morning that caught my eye. A cacophony of colour, bustle, fooderies, people queuing, chatting… my iPhone camera was out and working overtime to capture the sights and moments on that glorious sunny Sunday morning in one of London’s oldest markets.

I walked past ‘The Tinned Fish Market’ with the amazing beautiful and eclectic mix of sardine cans stacked neatly on the table (see above). I stopped. Contemplated the vibrancy of colour, the amazing array of different sardine cans, the varying typefaces – all too good to be true! I walked back and took a quick snap.

Here’s their story…
“SUSTAINABLY SOURCED TINNED FISH, TRADITIONALLY PRESERVED” In summer 2018, Patrick Martinez headed to Portugal, on the lookout for canneries – ones with sustainability, quality and style at their hearts. He met with some of the people at the famed conserveries outside Porto and together they chose the tins that best met what he was looking for – bright sardines sourced from morning markets and tinned the same day; pole-and-line caught tuna, marinated in the best olive oils and sauces; fish tinned used traditional, hands-on techniques. After that it was back to the UK to start The Tinned Fish Market. Three years later, and his business is working with canneries across Portugal, Spain and France, stocking around 150 different tins.

And my take…
Now that’s what I love about being a designer and a self-proclaimed – Brandologist. Seeing and appreciating design. However big, small or on/in whatever media form… to capture it, let it seep into the sub conscious and then use that ‘image experience’ to drive energy, enthusiasm and creativity into the projects that we work on with our clients.

As we head into the festive season, here’s a question to you…
“How do you pack your sardines?”

Charles Bukowski puts the ‘big reveal experience’ of unboxing into beautiful context:
“Bullfighting can be an art, Boxing can be an art, Loving can be an art, opening a Can of Sardines can be an art.”

So what are you waiting for... fill your boots with beautifully designed sardine tins from ‘The Tinned Fish Market’ or another reputable supplier and put one (tin), in each of your loved ones Christmas stockings…

Alternatively, ‘drop me a line’ and let’s talk about how we can produce an amazing reveal for your product.

Have a top weekend sardine hunters!

Best regards

Up hill and down dale

Last Sunday at 8.07am Italian time I was awoken from my slumbers in our apartment in Bologna (Chris and I were on a whirlwind eight day tour of Northern Italy taking in the sights of Milan, Lake Como, Florence, Pisa and Bologna at the time) by Freddieour eldest son face timing me on his way down from the summit of Snowdon. His only words were, “sorry Dad I don’t know how that happened. We’re on the way down.”That was it. The phone went silent. He’d obviously pocket dialled me. My heart raced as I wondered whether they were going to make it...

‘The Famous Five’

Herdie, Ben, Freddie, Alex and Charlie.

Back in April I sent each one of them a personalised box of snacks and beers so that they could celebrate Freddie’s 21st on zoom. They were at their respective universities and Charlie was in Germany on placement – ‘995miles apart’. They’ve met once since then in person to plan this challenge...

The National 3 Peaks Challenge

Charlie describes the drama of their 24 hours ‘Up hill and down dale’...

"What a weekend. Following weeks of planning and (not enough) training, we began the 3 Peaks Challenge at the foot of Ben Nevis at 8:30am on the morning of Saturday 30th September. Given our fresh legs and some heavy carb-loading in the preceding days, this mountain was arguably the easiest of the three, although there were predictably testing sections on both the ascent and descent. We were all finished by 1pm and began the journey to Scafell Pike during which we loaded up on some well-earned food and sleep. Beginning Scafell at 7:30pm, we would be walking in the dark and driving rain for the entirety of this mountain, which proved tricky on what was the most technical climb of the three. We finished in just over 3 hours, which left us needing to eat a quick meal on the bus before sleep inevitably hit. Arriving at Snowdon in the morning at 4:30am to more rain was a bit bleak and certainly dented our morale, but we knew the finish line was (sort of) within sight now. Snowdon was summitted at around 6:30am, leaving us just under 2 hours to complete our descent. Despite some minor hiccups on the way down, including a head injury and a rolled ankle, we had left ourselves enough time to jog over the finish line with 7 minutes to spare at 8:23am on Sunday morning. I think it is fair to say that all of us found the experience challenging, but immensely gratifying having set out precisely what we aimed to achieve. At the time of writing this, I am sprawled on my bed in quite a lot of pain, but with the GoFundMe page at well over £6k we are all delighted with the result and it certainly feels worth it!”

The Famous Five completed their 3 Peaks Challenge in 23 hours, 53 minutes and 35 seconds.

The Why

At the end of September, we are aiming to complete the National 3 Peaks Challenge in less than 24 hours to raise money for the South Warwickshire University NHS Foundation Trust (SWFT Charity).

“This institution and its staff has had a profound impact on the lives of our group as they have been crucial in supporting two of our mums when they were taken ill in the last two years. Due to the brilliant support and treatment provided, both Lorna and Tessa have been able to make full recoveries from breast cancer and a stroke respectively.”

As such, we would love to raise in excess of £1,000 to give back to these groups and their wonderful staff. Any donations would be hugely appreciated in enabling the group to continue its work, but simply sharing this post amongst your friends/family will make a difference.

Thanks in advance for any contributions.

The Running Total is...
