Sometimes, the best way to show a technical product is to stop trying to film every part of it.

That sounds odd coming from a video production team, but the camera can only show so much.

For this project, 3D animation helped us show what was happening inside the product, without relying on a risky or restricted site environment.

Clearer. Safer. Easier to understand.

And because the 3D assets were built properly, they could be reused as GIFs and smaller visuals for wider marketing.

We used to be brilliant in the room.

Then terrible at what came after.

Full phone. Full notebook. Loads of “we should definitely talk” chats.

Then work got busy, follow-ups got forgotten, and three weeks later… strangers again.

Industrial filming rarely happens in perfect conditions. 😵💫

There are access restrictions, safety rules, operational limits, and plenty of moments where the thing you’d ideally like to capture simply can’t happen on camera.

That doesn’t mean the story can’t be told.
It just means the production needs a bit more thought behind it.

For this project, David, our Creative Director, was talking through how we approached filming across different locations while working around what could and couldn’t be shown on site. ⭐️

The goal was to show scale, application and versatility, while still respecting the reality of working in live industrial environments.

That’s where planning really matters.

You need to know what each location can give you, what needs to be captured elsewhere, and how it will all come together in the edit.

Because in industrial content, the restrictions are rarely the problem.

Usually, they’re just part of the brief.

Most businesses don’t need more content.
They need to know what their content is meant to fix.

Because “we need a video” usually isn’t the real problem.

The real problem is often:
👉 “Our buyers don’t understand the value.”
👉 “Our team keeps explaining the same thing again and again.”
👉 “Our message is technically right, but nobody is engaging with it.”
👉 “Our content exists, but it isn’t helping anyone make a decision.”

That’s why strategy has to come first.

Before any content gets made, the better question is:

✅ Who needs to understand this better?
✅ What are they currently missing?
✅ What decision are we helping them make?

Once that’s clear, content becomes much easier to plan.

Not more content for the sake of looking busy.

Just content with an actual job to do.

Faking the weather for a product video. 😳🌧️

Durability was one of the biggest things we needed to show on this Enerpac shoot.

The product had to feel like it belonged on site, in proper working conditions - not just sat in a polished setup looking pretty.

So naturally, we found a big watering can and made our own rain. 😅

There was water, wind, lighting, reflectors, and a lot of “does this actually look believable?” happening behind the scenes.

But that’s the thing with industrial video.

Sometimes the creative bit isn’t about making something dramatic for the sake of it.

It’s about showing a real feature in a way people can instantly understand.

Nothing says “back after a long weekend” like an early train to Edinburgh and a rainy demolition site. ⭐️

There were multiple coffees.
Lots of sparks.
One very hardworking umbrella. ☔️

Industrial filming is rarely neat and tidy, but that’s usually what makes it interesting.

Sometimes the weather has other ideas, the kit needs protecting, and you just have to improvise to get the shots.

All part of the job.

And yes, the coffee on the way home was very much needed. 🙂↕️

When you’ve got a long list of products to film, process matters. ✅

Without one, every video starts from scratch… and that’s where time, budget and energy disappear very quickly.

On 14th May at 11am, we’re going live for How We Produced Industrial Product Videos at Scale with Enerpac.

We’ll talk through how a test shoot, storyboard and repeatable filming format helped turn a complex product range into clear, consistent and engaging video content.
