Did you know that Les-tah to the Front was made with babies and toddlers in Leicester?
In March, Brigitte and Gaz from Crescendorious came to Leicester for a research and development week. They worked with young children and their families at Highfields Library, Pork Pie Library, Beaumont Leys Children Centre, Belgrave Children Centre, Braunstone Children Centre, Ash Field Academy and Medway Primary School.
The mini-music makers were invited to immerse themselves in live punk music-making, dance moves, songs, poetry, and meditative soundscapes that stirred emotions and sparked imagination.
Crescendorious created a space with kids, by kids and for kids that encouraged the freedom of expressing themselves through dance moves at a gig, picking up an instrument for the first time and giving it a go, the pure euphoria of the right-of-passage stadium call and response. Young writers had the opportunity to share their original lyrics, celebrating the vibrancy and magic of Leicester through the lens of punk.
As emphasised by the Vital Spark relationship programme: ‘We believe that children and young people should be able to see themselves reflected and represented in all the shows they watch. Both in terms of the stories being told and the performers who tell those stories.’
Don’t miss your chance to see Les-tah to the Front, made with young children from Highfields, at Highfields Library on Thursday 15th May at 1pm.
