It makes sense why this feels confusing—especially when your competitors have basic websites that haven’t been updated in years. But the thing is, it’s less about their websites and more about their Google My Business Listing (GMB). That’s why you’re seeing them show up higher in local results.

Google prioritises trust and relevance when deciding which businesses show up at the top. So, even if a site looks outdated, it can still outperform yours for a couple of key reasons:

1️⃣ They’ve Been Around Longer
Age isn’t just a number when it comes to SEO. If their
website has been live for years, it probably has stronger domain authority and more established backlinks. Google sees that history as a sign of trustworthiness.

2️⃣ They’ve Got More Reviews
The more genuine, high-quality reviews a business has, the more Google trusts that it’s a reliable, relevant result.

So, what do you do to climb higher?👇 (see comments)

Content Strategy

Vs

Social Media Strategy

How’s it different from a social media strategy? It can be confusing, especially since the definitions seem to be interchangeable! 🙈

Here’s how I like to break it down:

Social media strategy is all about where you show up—choosing the right platforms, the right tools that amplify your message and figuring out where your audience is spending their time online.

Content strategy, on the other hand, is about what you’re saying—deciding the types of content, images, words, and formats that really connect with your audience. Should you lean into video? Episodic content? Etc etc.

We’ve all heard the phrase “content is king,” and while it’s true that content is essential, it’s strategy that really makes it work for you. Without a plan, even the best content won’t go as far as it could.

Start small—think about what you want to say, how you want your brand to feel, and how your content fits together. Even planning just one week ahead can make a big difference in your results over time.

This month, we’re looking ahead at what marketing trends we expect to see in 2025. 👀

2024 has been a big year for change, from AI becoming a bigger part of our daily tools to influencer marketing growing even further.

But 2025? It’s expected to take things to a whole new level.

📌 Don’t forget to save this for later.

“𝘞𝘦 𝘰𝘧𝘧𝘦𝘳 𝘧𝘳𝘦𝘦 𝘤𝘰𝘯𝘴𝘶𝘭𝘵𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘴.’ So do they.

‘𝘞𝘦 𝘰𝘧𝘧𝘦𝘳 𝘧𝘳𝘦𝘦 𝘥𝘦𝘭𝘪𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘺.’ So do they.

‘𝘞𝘦 𝘰𝘧𝘧𝘦𝘳 𝘣𝘦𝘴𝘱𝘰𝘬𝘦...’ Guess what? So do they.

Your 20+ competitors are saying the same thing.

The truth is, just providing a service or selling a product doesn’t mean you 𝘥𝘦𝘴𝘦𝘳𝘷𝘦 to rank. You’re one of many.

𝐒𝐨, 𝐰𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐝𝐨 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐝𝐨?

prove that you’re more relevant.

prove that you’re more relevant than all the competitors in your niche.

prove that you’re the trusted authority.

prove that you’re the company that delivers the best customer experience possible.

Look at the businesses on the first page of Google. What are they doing? Do that—but better.

🔑𝐓𝐢𝐩: Find your niche. Dominate it. Then make your brand so memorable that people search for you directly, not just your services. That’s what will get you ranking for your services.

Don’t ignore it.
Don’t sit back and hope it happens.
Your business won’t market itself.

“𝘉𝘶𝘵 𝘐 𝘥𝘰𝘯’𝘵 𝘩𝘢𝘷𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘵𝘪𝘮𝘦 𝘰𝘳 𝘬𝘯𝘰𝘸-𝘩𝘰𝘸.”

Find the time or someone that can make it happen.

But whatever you do, don’t do nothing.

Having a website is only part of driving customers to your business. You need to make sure it’s optimised 𝗳𝗼𝗿 traffic so potential customers can actually find you.

So many businesses invest £££ in a website that just sits there – like a shop on a deserted high street with no footfall.

Not very useful, is it?

𝐒𝐨𝐥𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧

1️⃣ Optimise your site for search traffic.
2️⃣ Make sure you’re driving traffic to it.

Simple, right? That’s where 𝗦𝗘𝗢 comes in. It ensures your site gets found by the right people, so you’re not missing out on potential customers.

"I think something’s wrong with my website."

“Why?”

“Because it’s not generating any sales.”.

“Okay, let’s take a look. Can your target audience find you online?”

“Yes, 1000 visits a month.”

“How many sales?”

“Just 2."

“That's a conversion rate of 0.2%. The wrong audience is landing on your website.”

“What do you mean? I rank top 10 on Google for T-shirts, and I sell T-shirts.”.

“Your T-shirts are designer that cost £80.00. The average T-shirt costs £10-£20.00; you don’t sell T-shirts; you sell premium T-shirts with premium materials. People are finding you for T-shirts; they see the price and leave.”

“But if I focus on premium T-shirts, I’ll get less traffic”

“Absolutely, but you’re more likely to get more sales.”

This is why keyword research is so important. Focus on the people searching for what you offer; yes, you’ll get fewer visits, but the people who do are more likely to buy.

Knowing exactly who your ideal client is makes all the difference in social media marketing.

You can’t make a genuine connection if you don’t know who you’re talking to—and having a clear picture of that person makes content creation so much easier!

It’s about understanding who you're speaking to, what resonates with them, and how your brand fits into their lives.

And that goes way beyond basic demographics (like age, gender, or location).

The real insights come from psychographics—your audience’s interests, values, lifestyle, and how they see themselves in the world.

💡How does your audience feel about who they are? 💡

Let’s say you’re marketing to women in their 40s interested in fitness. Demographics only give you a surface-level view, but psychographics reveal much more.

1️⃣You might find one group that feels inspired and fit and sees this as the time to push even harder, setting new physical goals.

OR

2️⃣Another group might feel insecure, struggling with motivation, and looking for a realistic, gentle way to improve their health.

💡Same demographic but totally different psychographics. 💡

And how would you speak to each group? The first group would respond well to posts about achieving peak performance, trying out advanced workouts, or joining fitness challenges.

The second group, however, would appreciate tips for easy workout routines, encouragement, and relatable stories about others finding confidence on their journey.

When you define your audience with both demographics and psychographics, your content becomes a magnet. It doesn’t just reach people—it resonates with them deeply, inspiring trust and action.

When you truly know your audience, engagement becomes more than just likes and comments; it’s about creating real connections. Those connections build loyalty, bring in repeat clients, and drive referrals.

A lot of businesses make this SEO mistake…

They spend time and money trying to rank for big, generic search terms that bring in irrelevant traffic.

But here’s the truth: It’s not about the search volume—it’s about attracting people who are ready to work with YOU.

Instead of chasing broad terms, focus on being at the top for niche, local keywords that match your ideal clients.

💡 A search term like 'Emergency Plumber in [Your Local Town]’ is WAY more likely to convert than ‘Best Plumbers.'

TikTok as a search engine?

Yes, it's happening.

(Who else has gone looking for ‘easy dinner recipes’ on TikTok? And who checked there before Google or YouTube?)

Gen Z, as expected, is leading this trend, with about 10% starting their searches on TikTok instead of Google. (10% for now… but just imagine how quickly that could grow.)

And it’s not just Gen Z – nearly half of millennials, plus plenty of Gen X and even Baby Boomers, are also turning to TikTok for answers.

With short-form video booming (hello, Reels and YouTube Shorts 👋), it’s no surprise TikTok remains a top choice for so many users.

If your brand isn’t on TikTok yet, it might be time to rethink that. Given its rising role as a go-to search tool, especially in popular niches, your presence could mean a big difference in reaching new audiences.

Not convinced? If you have a few minutes, take a peek at the app. See what’s trending in your industry, and consider if your strategy could use a TikTok boost.

If your business doesn't show up in Local Search results, you're practically handing those customers over to someone else.

💡Why does Local SEO matter?💡

👉Higher Visibility - Be the first option people see when they’re nearby and ready to buy.

👉Brings in Real Leads – These aren’t just random clicks; they’re people already looking for what you offer, close to home.

👉Cost-Effective Marketing – A smart way to advertise without the big spend.
