Yesterday officially marked a decade of The Design Gent!!!

I decided to hold off on the announcement until today, mostly because I knew better than to try and steal the thunder from all the Mums.

A decade. It’s a milestone that feels both like a lifetime and a blink of an eye.

When I first started the vision was clear, to bring a sense of "gentlemanly" polish to the creative world. I wanted to prove that you could be professional, structured, and sophisticated on the surface, while being unapologetically bold and imaginative underneath.

Looking back, the most rewarding part isn't just the portfolio of work, it’s the community that’s been in my corner. Whether we collaborated back in 2016 or just last week, you are the reason I’m still skipping the corporate jargon and doing things "the Gent way." Thank you, I am truly grateful.

Ten years of adding colour to the world. Here's to another ten!

I’m back with the team at the Beer Hall, Everards, this time trading Valentine’s hearts for Mother’s Day florals! 🌸

Following our recent collaboration, I’ve been busy developing the creative for their upcoming Mother’s Day weekend. It’s been a pleasure to continue help an iconic local brand stand out during the busiest dates in the hospitality calendar.

The "Be the favourite child" campaign focuses on a stress-free weekend where Everards handles the food and the mess so guests can focus on spoiling Mum.

The creative package included:
• Full Menu Design: Featuring classic roasts like beef with braised beef filled Yorkshire puddings.
• Social & Digital Assets: Promoting the full weekend of celebrations on Saturday 14th & Sunday 15th March.
• Brand Illustrations: Soft, seasonal floral concept art to set the right tone for the Beer Hall.

Huge thanks again to Tom Flynn for the continued partnership. It’s a joy to bring these campaigns to life at Everards Meadows!

Ever tried to blow up a photo and ended up with a blurry, pixelated mess?

That’s what happens when you use a Raster logo for big jobs.

I see it far too often, a beautiful brand concept held back by the wrong file format. If you’re building a legacy, you need to know the difference:

• Raster (.JPG, .PNG): Built from pixels. Great for web and small photos, but if you try to scale it up for a van wrap or a shop sign? It loses its edge—literally.

• Vector (.AI, .EPS, .SVG): Built from mathematical paths. This is the gold standard. You can scale a vector logo from the size of a postage stamp to the size of a skyscraper, and it will stay pin sharp.

The Bottom Line: Your brand identity needs to be versatile. Whether it’s on a business card or an exhibition stand, "pixelated" isn’t the look we’re going for.

Always ensure your designer provides your master files in vector format. It’s the difference between a brand that looks "okay" and a brand that looks "exceptional."

It was a pleasure building the creative for the Everards Valentine’s campaign!

I’ve spent years specialising in pub branding and marketing working with the likes of Punch, Greene King Brewery, and my ongoing work with The Beautiful Pubs Collective. Joining forces with Tom Flynn and the Everards team has been a brilliant way to bring that hospitality insight to this "Dates or Mates" campaign.

The project involved everything from the "Love at First Bite" menu design to digital assets for their event. The campaign encourages everyone to come together, whether it's a first date or your best mate to share the love!

The menu is being served from the 9th - 15th of February, so if you're local to Everards Meadows, be sure to check it out.

Looking forward to more creative collaborations ahead.
