Last week, I spent two days volunteering with the Army Benevolent Fund at the Chelsea Flower Show.

I believe many UK businesses are beginning to recognise corporate volunteering is not just good for charities. It is good for people, culture, leadership, and business performance too.

So this month's blog is about why I believe businesses should volunteer with charities, the benefits for the employee and the employer, as well as the charity. The strongest partnerships are collaborative where both sides benefit.

As designers, it’s easy to get caught up in colour palettes, typography, and grid layouts. But the brands people truly remember aren’t just visually consistent, they’re emotionally distinctive.

The 11th Household Cavalry Veterans Banger Rally sets off tomorrow.

Over the past 11 years, they've raised over £100,000 for various military charities, and this year, they're proud to support , a charity dedicated to helping children of the Armed Forces who have lost a parent.

The teams self fund all their costs (Cars, Ferries etc) which means all donated money goes directly to the charity and each team will have its own fundraising target as they look to raise a combined total of over £10,000.

We are proud to be supporting the Rally for the fourth year and we wish them all a safe, enjoyable and memorable few days.

Team SNAFU consists of three Household Cavalry Veterans; Alex, Sean and Paul who, between them have accumulated over 90 years of service.

Sometimes, it’s more than just a job.

Last year, I was approached by a mum whose son tragically took his own life at just 16 years old.

In the face of unimaginable loss, Leo’s family chose to honour his life in the most powerful way, by creating Leo’s Safe Haven, a space dedicated to raising awareness around youth su***de and the importance of early support.

Working with them to design this website was a deeply meaningful experience. Through gentle storytelling and carefully chosen imagery, the site shares Leo’s journey, including his early diagnosis of autism, helping others better understand the challenges he faced.

Leo’s Safe Haven has been created in collaboration with Autistica, supporting vital research and campaigning work to improve understanding and support for autistic individuals. Every contribution goes towards creating a future where young people feel seen, supported, and understood, whether at school, at home, or within their communities.

Their hope is simple but powerful: to inspire the creation of “safe havens” everywhere. I’d really encourage you to take a moment to visit the website.

🎨 March Top Tip: Typography is one of those things you don’t really notice… until it’s bad. When it works, it feels effortless. When it doesn’t, it can completely ruin a design faster than a dodgy Comic Sans logo on a law firm’s website!

Typography isn’t just about picking a nice font and calling it a day. It’s an art form in its own right – one that shapes how we read, feel and react to visual content.
