How do you talk honestly about the risks of ketamine without losing the people who most need to hear the message?

Simply telling people not to use drugs can close down the conversation. For Turning Point, we developed Know Your K, a national campaign designed to give young adults clear, practical information without scare tactics, stigma or judgement.

The campaign recognises a difficult but important truth. People need information they can use, whether or not they are ready to stop.

By meeting people where they are, Know Your K helps them understand the risks, recognise early warning signs, look after each other and seek support sooner.

Because harm reduction begins with a conversation people are willing to hear.

Low vaccine uptake doesn't always mean people need more information.

Sometimes they need a more convenient appointment. Sometimes they need reassurance from someone they trust. Sometimes they need support navigating a complicated system.

The challenge for public health teams is not just understanding what people know. It's understanding what's getting in the way of action.

In our upcoming Work Break Webinar on the 24th September at 12.30, we'll explore how behavioural science can help diagnose barriers to vaccination and design more effective interventions.

Most people don't fit neatly into pro-vaccine or anti-vaccine categories.

Many are somewhere in between. They may delay, seek reassurance, weigh up competing information or simply feel uncertain. Understanding that difference matters because different barriers require different solutions.

In our upcoming webinar, we'll explore what vaccine hesitancy really means and how behavioural science can help public health teams better support confidence and uptake.

What happens when you give two talented graphic design graduates a real behaviour change challenge?

Recently, we welcomed Bethy Wells and Monai Clarke from the University of Lincoln into Social Change for a week.

We first met them through their final year degree projects, where they stood out for the way they used design to tackle real social issues. So when they joined us, we wanted to give them the chance to take that thinking further.

Their challenge was to reduce excess water use among university students.

But before they designed anything, they started with the behaviour.

Using COM-B and the Behaviour Change Wheel, Bethy and Monai explored what was driving water use, where habits could be disrupted and how design could help make something largely invisible feel real.

The result was Water Wise, a creative campaign built around small, achievable changes rather than telling people what they should or shouldn’t do.

They packed a lot into one week, finished by pitching their thinking back to our team, and gave us plenty to think about too.

A brilliant week with two very talented people. We’re looking forward to seeing what they do next.

Want to use your marketing skills to change more than minds?

We’re hiring a Marketing & Communications Executive and a Marketing & Communications Manager at Social Change.

You’ll use behavioural science to understand what really influences people, then turn that insight into campaigns and communications that encourage positive change.

We’re looking for marketers who are curious about people and behaviour, who think critically and know how to turn insight into work that gets people to think, feel or act differently.

If you want to stretch your thinking, sharpen your skills and use marketing to make a meaningful difference, we’d love to hear from you.

Today the team were out in Lincoln for the Tour of Britain, chatting to residents, visitors and local businesses about their experiences of the event. 🚴

From finding out where people had travelled from to understanding how businesses have been operating throughout the day, it was great to see the positive impact the race has had on the city.

Improving vaccination uptake isn't simply about providing more information. People may intend to get vaccinated but face uncertainty, practical barriers, competing priorities or a lack of trust.

Join our upcoming webinar on 24th September at 12:30pm as we look at what really drives vaccine decisions and how behavioural science can help public health teams better understand and address the barriers to uptake.

Feeling informed can make a big difference to how confident people feel.

Working with Public Health Wales, we created an animation to help young people understand what to expect when receiving their flu vaccination. Designed with input from young people, it explained the process in a clear and engaging way, helping to reduce uncertainty before vaccination day.

It's a great example of how behavioural science can support confidence by making health information easier to understand and act on.

We'll be exploring these themes in our upcoming webinar, What Really Drives Vaccine Decisions? Behavioural Insights for Public Health Teams, and discussing how public health teams can apply behavioural science to improve vaccine confidence and uptake.

Why do people sometimes delay vaccination, even when they know it's recommended?

Vaccination decisions are often discussed in terms of facts, evidence and awareness. But behavioural science shows that people are influenced by much more than information alone.

Join us on 24th September at 12:30pm as we explore vaccine decision making through a behavioural science lens and share practical insights for public health, NHS, local authority and communications teams.
