Three letters could be the reason you’re not achieving what you’re capable of. BUT.

I’d love to start a business, BUT I don’t have the money.

I’d love to change my career, BUT I’m not qualified.

I’d love to do something different, BUT what if it doesn’t work?

Sound familiar?

We all do it, myself included. We come up with ideas, dream about possibilities and imagine what life could look like. Then we find a reason to convince ourselves it’s not possible.

And the interesting thing is, sometimes that reason is a genuine obstacle. Other times, it’s simply fear of failure, a lack of confidence or our brain trying to protect us from uncertainty.

When I started Under Glass Media, I had plenty of reasons to wait. I didn’t have everything figured out, and I certainly couldn’t guarantee success.

But imagine if I’d let those reasons make the decision for me.

Here’s a simple mindset shift that’s worth trying.

Replace BUT with SO.

I want to start a business, SO I’m going to learn how.

I want to improve my confidence, SO I’m going to put myself in situations that challenge me.

I want to change my life, SO I’m going to take one small step today.

The obstacles haven’t magically disappeared. You’ve simply changed how you respond to them.

And that matters because personal growth, confidence and success don’t require you to have all the answers before you begin.

Sometimes they just require you to begin.

Your future could be full of incredible opportunities that never happen because you keep finding a BUT.

Today’s Perspective is about recognising the difference between a genuine limitation and an excuse we’ve become comfortable believing.

So here’s my question for you.

What’s one thing you’d love to achieve, BUT keep finding a reason not to?

I’d genuinely love to hear your thoughts in the comments.

And if someone you know needs this little reminder, share it with them.

I can not recommend this family enough!!!

𝐍𝐎𝐓 𝐄𝐕𝐄𝐑𝐘𝐎𝐍𝐄 𝐋𝐎𝐕𝐄𝐒 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐆𝐘𝐌.

And that's OK.

Some people love running on a treadmill, lifting weights or following a workout programme.

Some of us need something a little different.

With Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu you're learning while you're moving.

Every session gives you something to work on. A new technique. A problem to solve. Something you couldn't do last week that suddenly starts to make sense.

And while you're concentrating on all of that, something else happens...

𝐘𝐨𝐮'𝐯𝐞 𝐣𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝐬𝐩𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐚𝐧 𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐛𝐞𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐰𝐚𝐭𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐜𝐥𝐨𝐜𝐤.

You're not exercising because somebody told you that you should.

You're doing something you actually look forward to.

Maybe you don't need another workout.

You’re not failing at life. You might just be learning how to play the game.

Think about it. When you play a board game and lose, you don’t automatically assume you’re useless. You look at what happened, learn the rules a little better, change your strategy and have another go.

Yet in life, we treat things very differently.

We get rejected for a job, lose a client, make a poor business decision or miss an opportunity, and suddenly we’re questioning our abilities, our confidence and sometimes even our worth.

But what if we looked at life differently?

I’ve learned through business, the military and plenty of personal experiences that success rarely comes from getting everything right the first time. It comes from understanding what went wrong, developing resilience and being willing to try again with a better strategy.

There’s a psychological technique called cognitive reframing, which helps us change how we interpret situations. Instead of seeing a setback as evidence that we’re not good enough, we can treat it as information that helps us improve.

And that’s where personal growth really begins.

Because losing a round doesn’t make you a loser. It makes you someone who’s still playing.

So next time something doesn’t go to plan, ask yourself three questions.

What haven’t I understood yet?

What has this experience taught me?

What can I do differently next time?

You don’t have to win every round to build a successful life. You just have to keep learning, adapting and making your next move.

And perhaps the biggest mistake we make is spending so much time worrying about losing that we forget to enjoy playing.

Here’s something I’d genuinely love your perspective on.

Do you think we take life too seriously sometimes, or is that pressure what drives us to succeed?

Learning to say NO could be one of the best things you ever do for yourself.

How many times have you agreed to something simply because you didn’t want to disappoint someone?

We often talk about setting boundaries, protecting our mental health and finding a better work life balance, but how often do we actually put ourselves first?

Here’s something I’ve learned.

Every time you say yes to something, you’re giving up the opportunity to say yes to something else.

Your family, your happiness, your personal goals, or simply having some time for yourself.

Being a good person doesn’t mean you have to be available to everyone. And putting yourself first occasionally doesn’t make you selfish.

It means recognising that your time and energy have value.

Here’s a simple mindset exercise to try.

Next time someone asks something of you, wait five seconds and ask yourself:

Would I still agree if I wasn’t worried about disappointing them?

That one question can help you make better decisions, establish healthier boundaries and take back control of your time.

Remember, self respect isn’t about pleasing everyone. It’s about knowing when your own needs deserve consideration too.

So here’s my question. Do you find it harder to turn someone down or deal with their reaction afterwards?

I’d love to hear your perspective.

One of the quickest ways to build resentment is to expect people to behave the way you would.

You would have called.
You would have helped.
You would have remembered.
You would have made the effort.

But they aren’t you.

And sometimes the problem isn’t that somebody crossed a boundary.

It’s that they failed an expectation you never actually communicated.

That distinction matters.

An expectation says, you should behave like this.

A boundary says, if this happens, this is what I will do.

A standard says, this is what I am prepared to accept.

You can’t control how other people behave, but you can control how clearly you communicate, what you accept and what you do next.

So if someone is frustrating you right now, ask yourself:

Did they actually let me down, or did they fail an agreement that only existed in my head?

That question might save you a lot of unnecessary resentment.

What causes more problems in your experience, poor boundaries or unspoken expectations?

Most people think quitting looks like failure.

Sometimes it looks like a better salary, a nicer car, a bigger house and a life that suddenly feels comfortable enough.

That is what makes it dangerous.

There is nothing wrong with wanting comfort. The question is whether comfort quietly becomes the reason you stop chasing what you once said mattered to you.

Because failure is easy to spot.

Comfort is harder.

It makes you renegotiate.

Next year.
When things calm down.
When I have more time.
When I feel ready.

And before long, you have not changed the dream. You have just stopped moving towards it.

So ask yourself this properly.

What is your price?

What could you be offered that would make you settle for less than the person you know you could become?

Do not confuse comfortable with complete.

Do not confuse progress with arrival.

Keep pressing.

What is one thing you refuse to sell out on?

AI is not the threat people think it is.

The bigger risk is using it so much that you stop bringing your own thinking to the table.

I use AI in my business all the time. It helps me develop ideas, test concepts, challenge my thinking and move faster.

But the tool is not the talent.

Your experience, judgement, creativity and ability to know when something is good enough are still what make the difference.

So next time you use AI, try this:

Do not ask it to think for you.

Give it your idea first, then ask it to challenge, improve or sharpen it.

That way, you stay in control of the thinking.

AI should make you better at what you already do.

It should not make you disappear from it.

Use the tool.

Do not become one.

The way you speak to yourself matters more than most people realise.

I run a company built around communication, and one thing I see all the time is how much the right message can change the way people think, feel and act.

That applies to us as well.

If you keep telling yourself you are not ready, not good enough, too late, too inexperienced, or likely to fail, eventually those thoughts start shaping your decisions.

And that is the dangerous part.

Successful people are not always more confident. They are often just better at moving before they feel completely ready.

They apply.
They start.
They ask.
They build.
They learn on the way.

Because the perfect time rarely arrives.

So pay attention to the conversation happening in your own head today.

When you catch yourself saying, I cannot do this, try changing the question.

How could I do this?

That one shift moves your brain from shutting the door to looking for a way through it.

Communication changes behaviour.

Even when the person you are communicating with is yourself.

What is one thing you have been telling yourself you are not ready for?

Maybe today is the day you stop waiting.

Some people make you think bigger.

They encourage the idea instead of questioning it.
They remind you what you’re capable of.
They challenge you when you need it, but they also want to see you win.

And sometimes you don’t realise how valuable that is until you spend time around the opposite.

The people around you shape more than your mood. They shape your standards, your confidence and what starts to feel possible.

That doesn’t mean you need people who agree with everything you say.

You need people who challenge you.
You need people who tell you the truth.
But the right people leave you clearer, stronger and more confident in who you are.

Pay attention to how you feel after certain conversations.

More energised?
More focused?
More willing to back yourself?

That matters.

Choose carefully who gets access to your head.

Because the voices you hear most often can have a massive influence on the voice you develop inside your own head.

So appreciate the people who help you grow.

And try to be that person for somebody else too.

Who has had the biggest positive influence on the way you think?
