St Helens; a town of innovation, regeneration, and growth - not just glass & rugby league!
The borough has long been an innovator. From its world-leading glass Pilkington Glass brand to its role in the first modern passenger railway—did you know Stephenson’s Rocket was built here, helping launch the Liverpool to Manchester Railway in 1830?
Today, St Helens continues to evolve, driving regeneration and innovation while cementing its place as a key part of the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority.
At yesterday’s Future of St Helens Breakfast at St Helens RLFC’s truly impressive stadium, regional leaders and leading lights from the industry gathered to discuss the borough’s exciting future. Our MD, Andrew Colwell was in attendance, taking in key insights from panels exploring growth, investment, and opportunities for local businesses.
Another terrific event delivered by , and hosted by their editor Simon Keegan gave us all some impressive key takeaways:
🔹 David Travis at Tritax Big Box Developments highlighted the key role being played by the UK’s largest freight rail interchange - this would remove 76 lorry journeys for every train carrying goods
🔹 Mike Rush, MSD, CEO of St.Helens R.F.C. discussed how the £30 million stadium investment has elevated the town and added to the already impressive global reputation of the club
🔹 Sean Traynor, St Helens Council, emphasised how St Helens has come of age, and is a significant player on the inward investment stage
🔹 Justin Kelly, at Glass Futures, shared insights on how St Helens continues to lead the way in glass technology, sustainability and the wider areas of innovation
With major regeneration projects—including the Bold Forest Garden Village and town centre redevelopment—St Helens is becoming an even better place to live, work, and invest.
St Helens has a bright future ahead and we very much look forward to seeing this story develop!
