Dear Cherished Customers and friends,

I’m delighted to share with you, that after over 15 years of working with Facebook, I’m no longer working directly on this platform.

I’ve had the privilege of supporting and navigating both business & third sector organisations to achieve their marketing goals on Facebook. Whilst keeping up to date & mastering the ever changing reiterations of this platform over those years.

However, this month sees my final Facebook client transition fully towards a more Google centric approach.

This has allowed me to close my books to new Facebook clients 🥳

Lots of news about hacked FB pages in the last week. Someone I know was hacked on the weekend (email too & instagram) and lost the lot.

They didn’t have 2FA on and there was nothing that could be done about it after the Hack.

If you haven’t done it yet, go and make sure the two-factor authentication is on because facebook will do nothing to help you get your hacked pages back.

Wishing all my wonderful Facebook Friends & Clients a restful & restorative Easter Weekend!

Special thanks to those clients for whom their energy in partnership on this platform has achieved the strategic outcomes they hoped for- and our most kind and supportive online advocates.

Special mention goes to West Lothian Community Table Tennis Club and their Pop in and Play Livingston who had a tremendous year recovering from the impact of covid on the club and achieved their goal of boosting their club membership.

is this years theme for IWD. I’m worried!

I whole heartedly support the day -and as a Marketer - understand the message and struggle of marketing departments to hone a ‘simple and clear message’, which encapsulates so much….but no - there will be no photo of me hugging myself today, as I take part in the conversation.

Instead an image I almost used recently for a blog on ChatGPT and for these reasons.

International Women’s Day was originally a United Nations initiative which started in America. The United Nations theme is

As you know, I’ve worked in IT for nearly 30 years and digital inclusion -in all its forms-is very close to my heart.

The fact is, woman are still under represented in the IT industry

AND

There is evidence of gender bias in Machine Learning systems.

One example which illustrates this, found in The Harvard Business Review, cites word-embeddings as a bias aspect of AI. These systems can often associate 'man' with 'doctor' and 'woman' with 'nurse'. Still - Really!

The campaign is calling for governments and the private sector to prioritise their efforts to make the digital world safer, more equitable and more inclusive.

Humanity has a long way to go still, let’s not allow the horse to bolt from the stable, on gender bias in machine learning and AI too!
