Here's a little story. When was the last time you checked your Google Analytics or any type of Analytics?

How much do you investigate it? Have you seen a slump in sales or enquiries? If so do you know what the reasons might be!

This is an actual former Client, who came back to me recently because their sales have completely dropped off and was also dropping off Search Listings.

So I investigated what might be the issue and found that the website had completely dropped off UK Search Engines - and as can see from the graph happened back in April!

It looked like some plugins had been added back in April plus being hit by the Google Core Update in April!

After some tweaks and amends on the site, the traffic started to flow again properly from the UK and as you can see from the stats, things have started to pick back up. It will take a while for the site to get back to where it was but at least all is not lost

Some stats of note (based on previous 30 days activity): -

- Organic Search up 420%
- Views to site up 1,194%
- Revenue up 234%

Will continue to monitor and hopefully not see such a dramatic drop!

Google Business Profile chat was a feature that allowed potential customers to message your business directly through Google Search and Maps. It offered a convenient way for people to ask questions, schedule appointments, or get basic information before visiting your location.

However, Google will discontinue the chat functionality on July 31, 2024. This means you can no longer receive new chat messages or initiate new conversations with customers through your Business Profile.

If you had existing chats with customers before July 31st, you could still access and respond to those conversations until the official end date.

If you have also hidden your contact number because you were using the Chat functionality, you'll need to unhide this otherwise you might miss that next Client!

Google Business Profile has been updated with a new service, allowing you to add Social Media Profiles!

Previously it would only add this if you had them on your website, and was not always picked up.

To add these, go to your Google Business Profile and edit your profile. The Social Profiles section can be found below where you add your website address.

Note that it can take up to 10 mins before these are updated on your Public Profile.

Universal Analytics is now officially dead! GA4 is now in full swing but is very different from Universal.

One of the changes is conversions. What this means is being able to track all events that happen on your website and whether they convert.

If you use Google Ads or Facebook Ads, this means that you will need to create a GA4 UTM tracking code so that you can properly track; the same for tracking clicks from your Newsletters or Social Media postings.

30th June 2023 - the last day before Universal Analytics is switched off!

If you don't have GA4 setup, then from tomorrow (1st July 2023), your website will not track any data!

Little story - we were approached by an Agency this week to check their Clients sites to check their Analytics setup. They had 100 Clients and 70% of them had not moved over to GA4

Please get in touch if you haven't yet moved over and need someone to do this for you

I don't think Google could be making it any clearer, with warnings and a countdown clock reminding you of the sunsetting of Universal Analytics.

GA4, the new version of Analytics, has been around for a while so hopefully you've already migrated. If you haven't or unsure, then get in touch and we can help

15 reasons why not to accept Google’s automatic migration to GA4.

Google are offering to automatically move your GA Universal Analytics Property to GA4 in March 2023.

However an automatic migration won’t deliver the following 15 benefits of a manual migration:

1. Form submission success event.
2. Tailor GA4 Ecommerce implementation to your website user journey
3. Configure the content groupings in GA4.
4. Change data retention period from 2 to 14 months!
5. Create events for important pageviews or event clicks in GA4.
6. Create & enable conversion events in GA4 console.
7. Capture download file name and type using GTM.
8. Capture button and navigation text on clicks using GTM.
9. Migrating all non-destination goals from GA3.
10. Register custom dimensions & metrics in GA4 console (e.g. browser language).
11. Link Google Ads
12. Audience trigger events in GA4
13. Set domains for cross-domain tracking.
14. Filtering out internal traffic
15. Trigger events based upon source, medium & campaign UTM parameters.

There are definitely more but these should get you going

GA4, the new version of Google Analytics, is here and replacing Universal Analytics*

Google are starting an automatic migration to GA4 in March but you are best to do this in advance as some of the settings are likely to be missed; so don't let them do it automatically.

Migrating to GA4 is simple to do but you want to make sure that it is set up correctly. You can run both Universal and GA4 side-by-side
