NEW CLIENT Digital Readiness Lab
Australia was the first country to draw a line at 16 for social media. The Lab is the first to measure what the line can’t: whether a child is actually ready for the digital world they’re already in, whatever birthday they’ve reached.
Its first publication is the Australian Digital Readiness Index, a national survey of more than a thousand parents of 9 to 14-year-olds, designed and analysed by an independent developmental research psychologist. The headline from parents: most had already seen a sign their child wasn’t ready, and 14-year-olds were showing the same signs as 9-year-olds. Age builds judgement. It doesn’t build the brakes.
We’ve been working with founder Rinat Strahlhofer since the Lab was a name on a page: positioning, research communications, founder profiling, media and the policy conversation. The Index launched this month across News Corp’s mastheads, and within the first week Rinat was on ABC Radio Melbourne, ABC Brisbane, Seven’s The Morning Show and Weekend Today, with the findings now in front of the people writing the next piece of legislation.
Readiness, not restriction. This one’s going to run for years and we’re glad to be in it from the start.
