I used to put branding photography in the “nice to have” category for yoga and Pilates teachers. But over the years, I’ve really changed my mind, and here’s why.
I probably speak to around 5 to 10 yoga and Pilates teachers every month.
I see how many teachers there are now in most areas. I see how much noisier it feels online. I see how hard it can feel to stand out and how much harder it can feel to be a teacher than it did a few years ago.
And here’s the thing.
If you’re using:
A. Only stock imagery
B. Increasingly, only AI-generated imagery
C. Photos that don’t really reflect you anymore
D. Pictures your mate took on a phone that you don’t actually feel great about
E. A photoshoot from 5 years ago that’s been used a thousand times
…none of those situations are likely to help you feel confident in what you’re offering or how you present your brand.
People can tell when AI imagery feels generic. They can spot the Canva template with the same stock images everyone else is using. And when we’re told attention spans are basically half a second long, original imagery matters more than ever.
Having your own bank of images that actually feels like you, represents your energy, and doesn’t make you cringe when you use them… it changes something.
It filters through your website, your social media, your emails, your flyers, everything. And it reinforces the message: “I can do this.”
I don’t think it’s superficial to say good images give people a boost. I see it happen all the time.
So yes, I’ve definitely changed my tune on this.
Do you think branding photography matters?
