Top 5 Pale Ales in London? Bone Idle is undoubtedly there for me.
A bright and crisp Pale Ale from Jawbone Brewing (), a brewery based in Twickenham.

Bone Idle was the first beer brewed by Head Brewer Ben Hughes, an easy-drinking Pale Ale brewed with a solid malt base and lifted by punchy Pacifica and Simcoe hops.

Jawbone is proudly independent, and they believe in the importance of inclusivity, integrity, and good humour.

Jawbone Brewing is the realisation of Ben’s vision to shake up South London's beer scene.
It's a mission that's brought him to a working boatyard in Twickenham, where he has built a 30hl brewery and BeerDock taproom.

Here he's applying his philosophy of introducing bold flavours across the vast spectrum of beer styles. It's a process borne out of constant innovation, perfectionism and relentless enthusiasm for great beer.

Give Bone Idle a go! ;)

Are you one of these people that get constantly asked about the best pubs in an area by your friends?

It is one of our most common requests, and we like to share the knowledge as much as we like to collect it from our friends.

The most common place we get asked about the best pubs to visit is always that bit of Central-North-East London that usually sits around postcodes N1-EC1-E1.
The areas around Shoreditch, Spitalfields, Liverpool Street, Old Street, and Farringdon.

The five pubs our Gabs () have suggested are capable of satisfying the different needs of all types of people.
From the cool The Gun () to the beautiful outdoors of The Crown and Shuttle (), from the busy and vast Strongroom () and the cosy boozer The Crown Tavern () to the craft waterhole Exmouth Arms ().

This was a few Fridays ago suggestions… can you share your favourite pubs in those areas?

On a recent visit to Walthamstow after a very long time, we managed to visit Pillars Brewery taproom - they are a specialist craft lager brewery established in 2016.
It started as a family business and remained a team of family and close friends; they were the first craft lager brewery in London 🌈

They aim to change the wrong perception of lagers and lager drinkers in the UK. And they are doing it without snobbery but with practice, knowledge, specialist equipment and quality ingredients. Good lagers are well balanced, full-flavoured and refreshing, a sophisticated and refined beer style 🎓

They combine contemporary brewing techniques with traditional brewing principles.
Their beer is created within a conventional Bavarian-style brewhouse, with its own lauter tun. They tailor the water profile for each brew using their onsite water treatment plant and complete the process with a minimum of four weeks of cold conditioning ❄️

When we approached Pillars taproom bar, and we saw the line-up, it was an easy choice.
We decided to take the Festbier - this style describes a golden coloured German-style of low fermentation beer, a robust (in alcohol and body) lager with slightly more hop flavour. It has a subtler character of lightly toasted bready dough, and light sweetness complements a grain bill built around pilsner malt 🌾

The Pillars version, at 6% ABV, was spot-on: malty and fragrant, with a floral aroma from the Rottenburger hops. We enjoyed the freshly baked bread flavour, which was well-balanced by a firm bitter finish 👌

What beers did you grown up with? 🐣

For our Gabs Bertucci, like many other Italians, it was the holy triad of Ceres, Tennent's & Du Demon 😰

Read a bit of history & facts about his 15 years old relation with beer, from the early experiences in his village to the Italian & European explorations, then how he made a career in London around beer 🌐

I've been drinking beer since I came of age. There wasn't anything better to do in the Italian village where I come from than hanging at the only supermarket in town, getting a four-pack, and smashing a few cans of it with friends. I have to admit it hasn't changed much…
