Depesh was partly joking when he said this, but in reality Facebook doesn't make our lives easy.

During the recent cull of a load of useful interest-based targeting options - some for very good reasons, like protecting marginalised communities - we lost the ability to target, for instance, vegans. This won't affect a lot of advertisers, but if you're a vegan skincare retailer, a vegan food subscription company or a butcher trying not to target vegans, you hit a roadbump.

Where this cull affected my clients, I've had to change audience stategy to make sure the right people still saw my clients' ads. The good news? There are still so many amazing targeting opportunities available to us, you just need a strong strategy in place for finding, testing and nurturing the right people.

If you need support with your ad campaigns, or know you need paid social ads to increase your leads and sales but don't have a clue where to start, DM me today and let's see how I can help you 🤩

Why should you use paid social marketing?

Whilst I wouldn't recommend relying soley on paid social without supporting it with email marketing and organic nurturing of your community, here's a story I always come back to when I think about what can be achieved with social ads.

Many years ago I worked on a project for a major private bank. They needed to communicate some regulatory information to all existing customers and it was incredibly boring smallprint. We laid it all out to be as easy to digest as possible, made the content navigable, printed it on beautiful paper to make it feel premium and packaged it up so that the customer would feel special receiving it. A lot of time and money went into the project.

Here's the thing though - we never found out if any customer ever opened the package or engaged with the content. Once it was in the post it was impossible to track.

In contrast, when I hit go on a paid social campaign, within a few days I have data that tells me:

👉 what content the audience resonated with
👉 the type of content or format that worked best
👉 how many people took the action I want
👉 how much it costs to achieve a lead or sale
👉 where blockages to purchase or sign up exist

and I can then refine my approach based on this data, and keep testing until I find the best combination to hit my client's goals. That's the power of data.

Sharing a win today! 🥳

This click through rate is from one of my clients' current traffic campaign. The benchmark for traffic for a cold audience is 1% so I'm loving seeing our ad outperform. This result tells me that the audience chosen is really resonating with the content of the ad and wants to find out more by clicking through to the landing page.

If you are a coach or service business and know that to increase your sales or lead generation you need more of the right eyes on your website, you can find a link in my bio to book a free strategy call with me and find out how we can work together to make it happen!

Are you living for WHEN?

🤞 When I make X amount of money I'll take more time for myself
🤞 When I feel more secure I'll invest in marketing so I can grow my business
🤞 When I have everything under control I'll start going to the gym / book a trip / get a massage'

When I achieve X I can do Y' is such a thief of joy.

When I was young I always saved my best things for best. Years later I found nail polishes I had been excited to buy and then barely used because I saved them for special occasions. Pencils that hadn't even been sharpened for the first time. There's so much I've now given unopened to my kids because I never found an occasion to use them when I was a kid myself.

Now I'm older I know life is too short.

My parents kept their best plates in a cupboard and we used them about 3 times a year. We were lucky enough to be gifted really lovely crockery and glasses when we got married, and we use them every single day - it's a little everyday joy. I dress up to perk up my day, irrespective of what I'm doing.

I invest in my business as a means of moving it forwards rather than waiting until I've hit a threshold that's really only in my head, because the investment will help me get there so much faster. This shift has been a gamechanger.

What are you waiting for? Drop me a 💪 if there's action you could be taking right now!

Confession time: I have made some wrong calls in my time as a small business owner.

But here's the thing.

I don’t feel bad about it at all. And if you are in the same boat? Neither should you.

Small business owners are so often programmed to think that we need to know what we are doing all the time and do it all brilliantly, because we have (in theory) all this time and freedom from the rat race.

When really all we can do is make the best calls we can with the information available to us, and learn from our mistakes. Keep failing and keep getting back up. Of course the thing you started running your business to do you're pretty excellent at, but there's a whole lot more stuff that comes with business ownership and no-one prepares you for that.

So if there’s been some overwhelm slowing you down today, this is your reminder to let that go. Remember - a few bad calls won’t ruin your business. It will just show that you're human and you're constantly learning. And no-one's Wonder Woman here right?
