This Longines is a fine example of modern Swiss watchmaking, combining the marque’s traditional elegance with an exceptionally compact automatic mechanism. Its finely worked dial, stylised blue numerals and date display at six o’clock lend the model a particularly distinctive character.

At its heart is a movement from the ETA 2000 family, developed in the early 1990s to provide a notably compact automatic calibre. Measuring approximately 19.4 mm in diameter and a mere 3.6 mm in thickness, it proved particularly well suited to slimmer automatic timepieces.

The ETA 2000 operates at 28,800 vibrations per hour (4 Hz) and, in its ETA 2000-1 form, features 20 jewels, central seconds, a quick-set date, hacking seconds and a power reserve of approximately 45 hours.

Longines employed this family of movements as the foundation for calibres of its own, bringing ETA’s well-regarded engineering together with the house’s own identity and exacting standards.

This model therefore reflects a period in which watchmaking sought to unite elegance, precision and mechanical miniaturisation, giving the ETA 2000 an important place in the story of Longines’ compact automatic watches.

In 2000, Rolex unveiled the in-house calibre 4130 — a major milestone in the Daytona’s history. Fully developed and manufactured by Rolex, it replaced outsourced movements and introduced several key improvements:

• Vertical clutch for smooth chronograph engagement
