For many small business owners, blogging is just another ‘should' on a very long to-do list. You may be wondering… do I really need to blog? The short answer: Yes.

Blogging consistently is one of the best long-term marketing investments you can make in your business.

Notice, I say long-term because you need to be patient and you need to invest the time in developing good content - according to Content Powered about 3 hours and 57 minutes - so don’t expect results immediately.

The good news is that the effects of blogging are cumulative and build over time, like compound interest. And like compound interest the growth potential, once it takes hold, can be exponential!

In our latest blog, Why Business Blogs Matter and How to Start Yours (link in the bio) we explain why business blogs really do matter and how to get started. We provide a handy checklist because we love a checklist. And even have even shared our very own Blog Creative Brief.

Please have a read. Comment. And save if you like.

If you are like me and one of your resolutions is to blog more often and more consistently - read this article to make sure you‘re achieving the maximum benefits from blogging.

I noticed a recent client was completely ignoring the Squarespace settings when they were blogging and my hunch is they are not the only ones. So I’ve put together a list of every setting with instructions and best practices of how to complete. I’ve even created a handy checklist for you.

So excited to share the launch of our latest website design and build... Brightstarz!

Brightstarz offers a series of workshops for preteens and teens to give them the confidence and the practical life skills they need to thrive. If you are a parent or responsible for pastoral care at a school - they're an organisation you'll will want to know!

We worked with founder
Yvonne Kekeliadis to create the brand look and feel.

This included a new, bolder logo, a unique colour palette, modern typography and positive, playful and empowering image styling.

We then started work on developing the website strategy, designing a unique user experience and of course building the site.

Once the site was up and running we designed and printed new Brightstarz business cards and marketing collateral so Yvonne could start properly promoting Brightstarz amazing services.

Link to the Brightstarz case study is in the bio.

Why review a year you'd rather forget? Because it will make 2022 an even better year! Promise.

One of the biggest reasons small businesses falter is that they fail to plan and if you want to grow your business you need to understand where you are now, where you want to go and how to get there.

A business review is the first step in assessing your current situation and helping you plan for success. It doesn’t need to be hard or overly complicated. We’ll walk you through the different approaches and provide our free business review worksheet to get you started. https://www.instagram.com/p/CYRHyrhtjGF/?utm_source=ig_web_button_share_sheet

Hi. I’m Katherine Brown and I’m the person behind Ascender Creative. I wanted to say hello and properly introduce myself. I am not a shy person but I don’t always like being front and centre either.

Still I know people like to know a little about the person they are working with. I do too. In fact my favourite page on any website is always the About. I love hearing other people’s stories.

So here is my story in a few sentences. I’m a Canadian living in London. I’m a business person with an eye for modern design. I’m a new business owner just like you.

I’ve worked at senior marketing levels in large corporations like American Express and Sky TV. I’ve worked agency side, leading digital client accounts. I’ve been part of several start-ups, sat on Angel Investing teams and run my own design and print studio.

These days I use my business experience, customer marketing background and design skills to help small businesses build a meaningful online presence and connect with their ideal customers.

If you are a small business with big plans, l’d love to chat.

Icons are everywhere.

And for good reason - they are a wonderful communication device. As they say, a picture is worth a 1000 words. A well-chosen icon can communicate an idea quickly, adding interest and personality to the message it’s supporting.

We love these icons we handcrafted for Sarah Heaton Gardens.

What’s the best advice you’ve received as a small business owner?

For me the advice came in the form of a question… and that was, how are you spending your time? Are you spending the majority of your time working IN the business or ON the business? If it’s the former, this might highlight a problem.

Unfortunately, I had to admit to being in the “working in” camp - but that wasn’t always the case. Read how I went from working on to in and back to on again in our latest blog article. For those finding themselves in the same position, you’ll find some good advice and tips. Link in bio.
