𝘞𝘢𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘩𝘰𝘶𝘴𝘦 𝘙𝘦𝘴𝘵𝘢𝘶𝘳𝘢𝘯𝘵, 𝘫𝘶𝘴𝘵 𝘰𝘧𝘧 𝘊𝘰𝘭𝘶𝘮𝘣𝘪𝘢 𝘙𝘰𝘢𝘥 - 𝘖𝘱𝘦𝘯𝘪𝘯𝘨 6𝘵𝘩 𝘈𝘶𝘨𝘶𝘴𝘵

Gabriel Waterhouse and will open Waterhouse, a new restaurant, wine bar and garden on Ezra Street just off Columbia Road Flower Market from 6th August.

Following the closure of The Water House Project last month, Waterhouse is a culmination of years spent refining their vision and approach to hospitality. The restaurant is rooted in Gabriel’s upbringing in Northumberland, with a focus on the produce, landscapes and traditions of North East England.

Housed within a restored Victorian warehouse, the 24-cover restaurant explores a contemporary interpretation of the North East through ingredients including Lindisfarne oysters, hand-dived scallops, smoked fish, Herdwick hogget and Northumbrian honey. A kitchen larder of vinegars, garums, kombuchas, misos and seasonal infusions sits at the heart of the cooking, while a newly planted garden will supply herbs, flowers and produce as it matures.

A handcrafted oval oak bar will open first to restaurant guests before welcoming walk-ins from September.

𝘖𝘱𝘦𝘯𝘪𝘯𝘨: 𝘌𝘕𝘋𝘖 & 𝘔𝘰𝘨𝘢, 𝘊𝘩𝘦𝘭𝘴𝘦𝘢 - 𝘧𝘳𝘰𝘮 𝘌𝘯𝘥𝘰 𝘒𝘢𝘻𝘶𝘵𝘰𝘴𝘩𝘪 & 𝘊𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘷𝘦 𝘙𝘦𝘴𝘵𝘢𝘶𝘳𝘢𝘯𝘵 𝘎𝘳𝘰𝘶𝘱

Third-generation sushi master Kazutoshi Endo will open ENDO this October, followed by Moga in December, within a two-storey Chelsea townhouse.

ENDO, an intimate and ambitious 10-seat omakase restaurant rooted in Japanese tradition and meticulous craftsmanship. Upstairs, Moga will offer a contrasting experience, a listening bar inspired by Japan’s embrace of modernity and Western influence throughout the 20th century.

ENDO will further explore the traditions passed down over generations through his grandfather and masters, serving multi-course omakase rooted in omotenashi - Japanese hospitality centred on empathy. Each sushi course will feature exclusively wild-caught fish from the British Isles, alongside key ingredients including rice, nori, wasabi and soy sauce sourced directly from specialist producers in Japan.

Designed with architect Javier Villar, the restaurant draws inspiration from the intimate sushi counters of Tokyo in the 1920s and 1930s. Guests will dine around a bespoke 200-year-old hinoki counter from Kyoto, while upstairs, Moga centres around a sculptural natural stone bar beneath an undulating ceiling made from masu sake cups. Initially, Moga will be available exclusively to guests dining at ENDO, before opening for standalone reservations from December.

𝘍𝘪𝘷𝘦 𝘍𝘦𝘦𝘵 𝘊𝘰𝘮𝘦𝘴 𝘵𝘰 𝘉𝘦𝘳𝘮𝘰𝘯𝘥𝘴𝘦𝘺 𝘚𝘵𝘳𝘦𝘦𝘵

This September, neighbourhood pizzeria fivefeet.london will open its doors on Bermondsey Street. Coming from founders Jay Patel, (Legare, Luna), Roland Horne (WatchHouse) and chef & baker Jack (Dusty Knuckle, Spring), Five Feet will feature a signature centimetre-thick, aerated dough dotted with bubbles, made from heritage grains milled in-house using a bespoke mill from Montpellier – the first of its kind in the UK. Topped with British produce from independent suppliers and baked in seasoned black iron pans, pizzas will be served alongside comfort plates such as Wings, Polenta Fritta, and Focaccia di Recco, as well as a concise of characterful, low intervention wines, vermouths, digestivi and organic Sabadi sodas from the southernmost tip of Italy.

On Sunday the 26th of July Edinburgh’s will be hosting , a celebration of natural wine and viticulture. From 10am until 5pm 17 ‘wild people’ or wine suppliers, who will take over the dining room at Timberyard to showcase unique bottles and interesting pours from various wine brackets, with a series of informal talks and discussions taking place in the PDR. On the food side, Timberyard’s longstanding friends will take over the kitchen, serving a menu of smash burgers and donuts.

On Tuesday the 21th and Wednesday 22nd of July, Roberta Hall’s beloved burgers from will jump next door to The Little Chartroom for an exclusive pop up. The special menu will embrace the spirit of nostalgic diner classics with Mozzarella sticks, Chocolate & Cherry Sundaes and Root Beer Floats available alongside a selection of burgers. Available to eat in and take away, the burger offering will include something for every taste, from Ardfern’s signature Double Smash Burger with cheese, pickles, bacon jam mayo to Fried Chicken burger with gravy mayo, peach hot sauce and kimchi, as well as a Fish finger bun with curry sauce and slaw and a veggie Fried maitake mushroom bun.

This month, Peckham’s favourite neighbourhood restaurant and vinyl bar, HAUSU, welcomed hannah crosbie and Cecily Hitchcock for the first edition of Full-Bodied in its new upstairs bar.

Taking over the late-night space, Hannah and Cecily co-hosted an evening of comedy, bringing together a stellar lineup of stand-up sets alongside an exclusive drinks menu created in collaboration with the Hausu team.

𝘚𝘵𝘢𝘺 𝘤𝘰𝘰𝘭

Not all ice cream is created equal.

Across the UK, chefs are looking to childhood favourites for inspiration, referencing familiar flavours and nostalgic formats and reinventing them with a healthy dose of creativity.
shore in Edinburgh has introduced a selection of soft serves, ice lollies and ice cream sandwiches to the shores of Leith. Led by Head of Pastry Felice Caffrey, the menu features bold combinations such as macadamia, mango and fig leaf sandwiches, lollies, or “Paddie Pops”, as well as fior di latte soft serve with toppings ranging from strawberry and flowering currant sauce, and buckwheat feuilletine, to sprinkles.

On Brewer Street, KHAO BIRD’s Bao Bun Ice Cream dessert is filled with a choice of cinnamon or chocolate chip ice cream, locally sourced from Bermondsey, wedged between a deep-fried sugar-coated bao bun.

At Soho’s , pastry chef Kate O’Sullivan has created a refreshing strawberry and mint sorbet. If you ask nicely, the front of house team may add a lick of booze to the table to finish it off.

Next door at Three Sheets, brothers and founders Max and Noel Venning have introduced a Belvedere Dirty Brew & Vanilla Affogato. Made with Dead Good Coffee espresso, Belvedere Dirty Brew, and vanilla ice cream, garnished with finely grated pistachio to enjoy after a couple of their famous dirty martinis.

Try Holly-dawn Middleton-joseph’s Toasted Rice Ice Cream at HAUSU in Peckham. Not only does it come draped in a sticky-sweet homemade caramel, but it brings a savoury approach with five spice, fennel, star anise, Sichuan peppercorn and cinnamon, resulting in a lingering warmth and gentle numbness on the palate.

Father’s Day is around the corner, and although we are never as prepared as a father at the airport, we do come bearing gifts with a gourmandise edge for any kind of dad.

For the Bon Vivant - for dads who like a good meal and night on the town, the HAUSU gift card provides the perfect excuse for an outing. Located in bustling Peckham, Holly-dawn Middleton-joseph ‘s menu combines Italian influences of simple, quality ingredients, cooked quickly over fire with flavours from Asia, inspired by her Chinese and Trinidadian roots. And to finish, head upstairs to the newly opened bar for a Hi Fi soundtracked digestif. Available via Hausu website.

For the Aesthete - currently gracing the walls of Soho’s , artwork by Woody Mellor from a recent solo exhibition At Least it’s Warm is on sale.
