Interesting facts about International Men's Day - November 19

A real man is wisdom, courage, mercy, a source of patience and willpower, whose words never diverge from deeds, to whom you can entrust your whole life and not be afraid of betrayal.

Every year on March 8, the world honors women of all ages. International Women's Day, initiated by Klara Zetkin - the leader of the women's group of the Social Democratic Party of Germany - has taken root in various countries so much that we can no longer imagine our existence without it. It turns out that men have a similar holiday, only few people know about it: on November 19, every male can be congratulated on International Men's Day.

The history of the holiday

International Men's Day, dedicated to gentlemen, is relatively young, if not young: this year it turns 15. The people of Trinidad and Tobago were the first to celebrate the important date. This island state is located in the southern waters of the Caribbean Sea, and is named after two large areas of land, which actually make up the country. Interestingly, the idea of creating the International Men's Day belonged to Dr. Jerome Tiluxinghu, who worked at the University of the West Indies. The enthusiastic initiator explained his intention to please the gentlemen of the planet with a simple desire to restore justice. In his opinion, men once a year should have the opportunity to become the culprits of the holiday, just like women, regardless of age and occupation. Jerome Tiluxingh noted that the existing Father's Day focuses exclusively on representatives of the stronger s*x who already have children of their own, and does not take into account the interests of other categories. The doctor also suggested the date of International Men's Day. Dr. Jerome loved his father very much and believed that people like him were worthy of the name of a true man and an example to follow. His father celebrates his birthday on November 19. In addition, the local football team on this day acquired a level of unity, the task of which was to end all kinds of differences on religious, ethnic, gender grounds. Later, the idea of celebrating a specific date was picked up in other countries of the Caribbean basin, as well as in the countries of Asia, Europe, North America, and Australia. Today, International Men's Day is celebrated in Norway, Great Britain, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Uzbekistan, Singapore, Zimbabwe, of course, in Ukraine and other territories. He received the support of the UN and UNESCO.

An interesting fact: the need to create International Men's Day was discussed as early as the 60s of the last century. Then many had the idea to make a holiday for gentlemen on February 23 - Defender of the Fatherland Day, which was celebrated in the USSR, in particular. The proposal has already been approved by the public. But, in the USA, in the early 90s, several events were held with the presentation of Thomas Oaspere, head of the Center for Men's Studies in Missouri-Kansas. After 4 years, the new date was even celebrated, but already after a year, everything quieted down. One by one, countries refused to hold International Men's Day. Only Malta remained faithful to this tradition until 2009, and from that moment began to celebrate this date together with everyone - November 19.

International Men's Day: goals and features

The holiday was started in honor of representatives of the stronger s*x around the world. First of all, International Men's Day is designed to draw the attention of the public to the existence of problems of gender discrimination of gentlemen in families regarding their role in raising children and relations with their wives. This is the main, but not the only, goal of the events held on November 19. Others include:

• encouragement of male significance in various spheres of life, regardless of social status, type of activity;

• assessment of the positive, productive contribution of men to the development and support at the appropriate level of the family, community and society as a whole;

• emphasis on men's health - psychological, physical and emotional, as well as the need to preserve and restore it;

• creation of certain conditions that contribute to the disclosure of their potential by gentlemen;

• improving inters*x social relations and ensuring equality in rights.

International Men's Day is celebrated, like any other significant date of social orientation: they organize street rallies, concerts, organize seminars, round tables, and thematic exhibitions. In schools and higher education institutions, specific activities, classroom and curatorial hours are held. The significant date is annually focused on a specific slogan, for example, "Positive role of men", "Men's health".

Do not confuse International Men's Day and World Men's Day - they are completely different holidays. The second was announced thanks to the efforts of Mikhail Gorbachev and falls on the first Saturday of November.

Our society is divided into two large camps - men's and women's. Each of them plays its own special role, with its own tasks, distinctive features and need. They are intertwined so closely that separation is like death. It is impossible to overestimate the importance of male and female principles. How impossible to overestimate the importance of the Sun and the Moon.

Therefore, dear men, I congratulate you from the bottom of my heart!!!

Why is it believed that Paul McCartney died in 1966 and was replaced by a doppelganger?

These rumors originated even when The Beatles were not thinking about disbanding, that is, in the 1960s. Fans, analyzing in detail the text of each song of their idols, several times found in them the allegedly vaguely sung "Paul is dead." For example, the song "While my guitar gently weeps" by George Harrison sings something like "Oh… Oh…" at the end, but fans have decided that George is singing "Oh, Paul Paul…" mourning the latter's death.

People who believe in the theory of Paul's death and the subsequent conspiracy of the musicians to cover it up cite the following evidence of substitution:

McCartney's personality changed very little until 1966, but then he suddenly changed and became unlike himself.

Also, the shape of the head itself was subjected to careful analysis (it could not change in any way), and theorists claim that there are some differences in the shape of the skull and the structure of the face.

McCartney was the same height as John Lennon, which can be seen on Ed Sullivan's show in 1965. But in the photos for the album "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band ", released in 1967, Paul is noticeably taller than John.

On the famous cover of the Abbey Road album, all members of "The Beatles" cross the road in shoes and only McCartney for some reason walks barefoot. After thinking about it, the fans came to the conclusion that this is another allusion to the death of Paul: in the traditions of some countries, the deceased is buried in clothes, but barefoot.

But the most favorite argument of substitution theorists is the color of McCartney's eyes. In the photo before 1966, they are dark brown, almost black. Later and to this day the eyes look green. Perhaps the fault for this lies in the quality of shooting, which in the 1960s, of course, left much to be desired compared to today. But still, the difference is too significant...

By the way, in 1969, The Beatles released a refutation of these speculations and later repeatedly joked about the legend "Paul is dead". But they did not manage to convince the incredulous fans to the end. They still have many arguments, but it is unlikely that this story has any basis, given the fact that during his career, Paul McCartney wrote a huge number of excellent songs, including world hits, and talent, of course, cannot be replaced .

History of "Freedom"

At the beginning of the 20th century, the first thing that those who arrived on a steamship to America in search of fortune saw was a giant female figure with a torch. The fire of "freedom, equality, fraternity" blazed above the American shore.

This monument of victory over oppression and poverty has turned into the most expressive symbol of American self-awareness over the decades.
Lessons from the reign of Napoleon III, a group of French democrats, fascinated by the greatness of the republic, decided to express their feelings with a gift. They offered the Alsatian sculptor Frederic Bartholdi to prepare a project for the Statue of Liberty.

Bartholdi was inspired to create this statue by Delacroix's painting "Freedom on the Barricades". The sculptor began his work by creating a model 1.2 meters in size, and then made three more, gradually increasing their sizes. And only after that he took on the main task. On the head of the great mother of emigration = a radiant crown, in the right hand - the torch of Freedom, in the left - the American Declaration of Independence, at the feet - broken chains of slavery. The length of only one right hand of the statue is 12.8 meters.

At first, the sculptor believed that the monument he ordered would become a signal beacon from the northern end of the Suez Canal. The female figure with the torch had to convince everyone that the light of progress was now shining on the North African coast. However, the people responsible for this project have changed their plans. The giant statue was disassembled, packed in 214 boxes and sent to the New World.

The sculptor got to work. Together with the engineer Gustave Eiffel, it was necessary to decide how this monument would withstand the winds and bad weather. The main architect of the Eiffel Tower developed an innovative metal structure, the basis of which was a support column. Attached to this moving stainless steel skeleton was an outer copper shell weighing 100 tons and as thick as a copper penny. The height of the statue is 46 meters.

When President Grover Cleveland opened the Statue of Liberty in October 1886, the organizers put on a spectacular fireworks display, and the sirens roared so much that they could drown out the roar of the cannon salute.

Bedlow Island in New York Harbor, later renamed Liberty Island, was chosen to house this giant figure with a torch. A 47-meter-high stone plinth was built here, on which a monument was erected.

Nowadays, a spiral staircase located inside the statue can be used for a difficult ascent to the very head of Liberty. It can hardly be said that the monument seen up close with its thick eyebrows and serious look is distinguished by its attractiveness. Bartaldi's contemporaries claimed that the facial features of the statue resembled the sculptor's own mother.

Do not forget that there is another "Freedom". The seated statue is located in Lviv in the building of the Museum of Ethnography and Art Craft in the very center of the city.

Interesting facts about the Christmas tree

Install a live Christmas tree at home, buy an artificial one or make something more unusual? Each person is inclined to different options, but everyone wants one thing - to create a festive mood in the house.

1. The tradition of decorating trees appeared a very long time ago, since people believed that spirits live in trees. And trees, such as a Christmas tree, which remain green even in winter, are considered a symbol of immortality. 2. The tradition of decorating the Christmas tree dates back to 1605 — that's when its existence was first "documented" on the territory of Saxony.

Interesting facts about the Christmas tree

3. But during the times of Kyivan Rus, the Christmas tree was a symbol of the complete opposite and characterized death, not immortality. Only later did we borrow this tradition from Europeans.

4. Previously, the Christmas tree was decorated not with special toys, but with fruits, candies, cookies, and later with candles.

5. At first, only a Christmas tree branch was brought to the house, not a whole tree. A small twig near the table or chimney was a talisman against evil spirits.

6. Martin Luther, a German religious reformer, is believed to have been the first to bring a whole Christmas tree into the house. Before that, the Germans planted an evergreen tree in their yards. Which is also a good tradition, because then I didn't have to clean the living room floor from needles.

7. However, the Germans still found a solution to the problem with needles, because they were the first to install an artificial Christmas tree. In 1747, they created a Christmas tree from painted goose feathers, and began the production of an artificial analogue of the main New Year's decoration.

8. This made it possible to reduce the annual felling of trees, because each Christmas tree grows for about 10 years before being sold, so that it can be used for 2 weeks. However, artificial plastic analogues are also a dubious service to nature, because although they serve for 5-7 years, they decompose in the ground for several more centuries.

9. Today, those who really care about nature find interesting ways to replace the Christmas tree. For example, they hang an electric garland on the wall in the shape of a Christmas tree.

10. The first such garland was invented in America in 1895. Then she decorated the Christmas tree of the White House.

We are sure that the human brain is capable of inventing many more interesting options to decorate the house for the New Year, without harming nature. Sometimes it takes a little effort to do a good deed.

How and when man started beekeeping

Man has an ambiguous attitude towards insects. Once upon a time, our ancestors, still climbing trees, saw nothing wrong with eating them. However, today they can be found as food only in some national cuisines. And in general, the attitude of people to insects has changed. At the household level, they can be considered banal pests and disturbers of the peace, who only disturb us. But there are also species that people consider useful, for example, bees.

Tasty and useful

Most likely, a special attitude towards bees was formed back in the days when ancient people discovered that honey is not only tasty, but also a very useful product. At first, hardly anyone noted its healing properties, but later attention was drawn to it as a medicinal product. And some ancient "dentists" even made mini-fillings from wax. That is, the functionality of honey was great.
And even today, many researchers recognize the great importance of honey. Yes, it is called one of the best natural antibiotics, and for a cold, it really turns out to be a good folk remedy that performs the necessary functions to support immunity. And therefore it is not surprising that scientists are concerned that bees may disappear from the face of the Earth and we will not have any worthy analogue of honey. That is, for the first time in three and a half thousand years, we will stop mining it.

The history of the use of honey

Analyzing the chemical composition of pottery shards found in West Africa, dated 3.5 thousand years ago, experts discovered an interesting detail. In addition to many other more well-known products found quite often in our ancestors, scientists saw the remains of beeswax on the walls of many pots: in this case, it was lipids and oils.
Apparently, the ancient man gradually heated the honeycombs, as a result of which the associated substances were released over time. It is also possible that the pots were part of the necessary inventory for honey processing and storage. And this, in turn, means that people have been engaged in beekeeping or collecting honey from wild bees for a very long time. In this regard, it cannot be excluded that the future possibility of losing honey may cost us very dearly, not only from the point of view of biological diversity, but also from the point of view of our health.
