Improve your ad copy with a simple rule that will grab attention and help lead to sales.
A common mistake I see in Facebook ads copy is when it starts: "Hi, I'm Rick, and I started my business when I….". If you begin with this line, you're losing most people before they get to your name.
When you're scrolling through the internet, there isn't time to find out why Rick started his business - no one cares. However, we certainly are interested if we think there might be something in it for us.
Most of the time, on social media, we are just bombarded with the perfect lives of other people. So it makes sense that a post about something that might benefit us would cut through.
The rule is this: To grab attention, always use a benefit in the first line.
As succinctly as possible, tell your audience what they will gain if they read on.
Implement this simple rule, and there's a good chance that you'll get more people reading your posts or ads. Whether they continue reading depends on a number of things. But that's a post for another day.
Until then, always remember to ask yourself "what's in it for my audience" and lead with that.
