Last week in London, we explored Giuseppe Penone’s Thoughts in the Roots at 🌿
A journey into the unseen layers of nature, and a reminder that creativity grows strongest when it’s deeply rooted.

Through wrapping cotton around living trees to capture their textures, and carving timber layer by layer in his Alberi series to reveal their hidden past, Penone transforms the vegetal world into a living archive of memory, growth, and time. 🌱🍃

Yesterday I discovered the “Pictograms: Iconic Japanese Designs” exhibition at Japan House London 🏮

From ancient hieroglyphs and early symbols to the designs first created for the 1964 Tokyo Olympics, it was inspiring to see how simple visuals have evolved into a powerful universal language we still rely on in airports, stations and public spaces today.

A beautiful reminder that good design doesn’t just look nice, it connects people.

📍 Definitely worth a visit if you’re into design & culture.

Color Explosion: Where Art Meets Vivid Imagination! 🟪🟦🟩🟨🟧🟥

emajendat, Los Angeles based artist Lauren Halsey’s first solo exhibition in the UK, transforms the gallery into a site-specific immersive “funk garden”. Inspired by South Central’s improvisational backyard culture which thrives despite a lack of green spaces in the city, emajendat offers an extension of Kensington Gardens into the galleries. At the heart of the exhibition is a walk-in version of Halsey’s signature vignettes, usually seen in miniature within her ‘funkmound’ sculptures or as intricately arranged tableaux. The CD clad walls and floor create a prismatic effect, while scaled-up figurines originally collected from swap meets in and around South Central share space with funkmounds and alive water fountain. Bespoke wallpaper and sand dunes provide the setting for Halsey’s first moving image work. Traversing time and drawing on a wide range of sources, emajendat celebrates South Central’s rich visual culture and its inhabitants, offering blueprints for imagining new futures.

You can visit emajendat at Serpentine Gallery until 2 March 2025.

Repost from

London is full of “ghost signs”; just look up.

These are forgotten adverts or old company signs, hidden in plain sight all over the city.
When there were no electronic billboards in the early 20th century these were the adverts adorning the buildings. It was all a little more straightforward back in the day — paint on brick. The often hand-painted works were typically created from the 1870s to the 1930s and feature old-fashioned font and designs, which evoke a sense of nostalgia.

Let’s call it part•1.
I capture these whenever I come across it. Maybe a part•2 will come later.
