How a local pub went viral (by accident)

The Oxford created a list of “beer garden rules” and posted it to social media.

To their surprise, the post went viral, and is still mounting up engagement as we speak.

Here’s why it worked:

👉🏽 The list was written in a humorous way, if you are a brit, you’ll know how rowdy beer gardens can get.

👉🏽 The list was polarising, meaning it will put some people off going BUT it will attract the pubs ideal customers.

👉🏽 The pub stated in the comments that they make their money from serving meals, meaning they really don’t want rowdiness in the beer garden. They want the type of people who sit down for food.

👉🏽 The pub replied to all comments with the same humorous tone, resulting in a flock of comments from new customers saying they can’t wait to visit.

👉🏽 One commenter even tagged a local newspaper, it wouldn’t surprise me if this does end up in the press.

So what can you(your business) learn from this?

1️⃣ Dare to be different - Whilst 99% of people are trying to “emulate” others success, do your own thing. Being a trend setter is far more powerful than a trend follower.

2️⃣ Create for your ideal client - If you chase 2 rabbits, you won’t catch either. Make sure your content speaks directly to your target audience.

3️⃣ Add your personality - This is what separates your business from the thousands of others out there. This is how you become memorable.

4️⃣ Be social on social - Make your audience feel involved. Having a community results in, loyal clients, brand advocates, referrals and engagement that continues to grow your online presence.

💙 LinkedIn is now completely shut down in China, initially removed in 2021 but it’s final project “InJobs” has now also been dropped

💙 AI is coming to the platform, including profile summaries, job descriptions and feed posts

🩶 Metas Ad targeting has improved using AI, with marketers reporting better performance

🩶 Meta is creating new Ad tools, that will help users build better campaigns

🩶 Hackers are using verified accounts on Meta to scam users, they have released a statement to say they are actively removing these as they find them

🖤 Tiktok has released a new “Music Hub” within the app, highlighting the latest trending audios and artists

Creating the "illusion" that Redbull was *THE* energy drink of choice by consumers ⚡️

Why? Because energy drinks were becoming trendy which meant more choice competition

But why trash cans? 🗑️

Consumers are 92% more likely to buy from non-paid recommendations, so seeing the "social proof" of empty cans swayed their choice and Redbulls strategy worked ☑️
