Apple releases Xcode 14.3 with all the latest SDKs
Apple has released Xcode 14.3 to developers, which includes the latest SDKs for iOS 16.4, iPadOS 16.4, tvOS 16.4, watchOS 9.4, and macOS Ventura 13.3.

Xcode enables developers to create apps for Apple platforms such as iOS, macOS, and watchOS. This update allows developers to create apps that are fully compatible with the latest operating systems from Apple.

Apple recently warned that developers will be required to use Xcode 14.1 or later to build and submit their apps to the App Store, starting on April 25th 2023. This rule applies to new submissions and updates for existing apps in the store.

If you are a developer who still has Xcode 14.3 beta installed, it is highly recommended that you download today’s official release. Apple also “highly recommends” developers update their apps to take advantage of the latest features available with iOS 16 and iPadOS 16.

iOS 16.4 packs new features including dozens of new emojis, notifications for web apps, voice isolation for cellular calls, improved VoiceOver support, optimisations for the ‘Crash Detection’ feature to prevent false emergency service calls, and support for 5G Standalone.

Previously released features as part of iOS 16 include Live Activities – allowing users to stay informed about real-time updates within your app, directly from the Lock Screen or Dynamic Island – App Intents, and upgrades to MapKit, ARKit, Core ML, and more.

iPadOS 16 introduced new productivity features that enable the creation of more compelling collaboration experiences and intuitive apps, as well as powerful pro workflows on iPad. Developers can incorporate desktop-level features, including an editor-style navigation bar, enhanced text editing menu, and external display support, into their iPad apps. Metal 3 also provides powerful capabilities that enable games and pro apps to fully leverage the potential of Apple silicon.

Apple opens ‘Activities’ sign-ups for WWDC 2023

Apple has opened sign-ups for ‘Activities’ which enable remote developers to actively participate in this year’s Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) festivities.

Apple introduced WWDC Digital Lounges in 2021, providing developers with the opportunity to engage in online discussions with Apple engineers and designers. This year, the experience returns for WWDC23, renamed simply as Activities.

Developers can now register on the Apple Developer website to participate in a Slack group where they can chat immediately after the upcoming keynote.

Starting from June 6, developers can join an assortment of activities within these online group chats, led by Apple engineers, designers, and other experts.

Earlier this week, Apple updated its WWDC 2023 event website with the line “Code new worlds,” which hints at the expected announcement of the company’s first AR/VR headset.

“Mark your calendars for an exhilarating week of technology and community. Be among the first to learn the latest about Apple platforms, technologies, and tools,” wrote Apple.

“You’ll also have the opportunity to engage with Apple experts and other developers. All online and at no cost.”

Gemini Pro: Google empowers developers with advanced AI capabilities
Google has announced the availability of its AI model Gemini Pro for developers and enterprises to craft solutions for their specific needs. This move is accompanied by a commitment to ongoing refinement based on user feedback.

Gemini comes in three distinctive sizes: Ultra, Pro, and Nano. The Nano version has already been integrated into Android – starting with the Pixel 8 Pro – while a specially tuned iteration of Gemini Pro is embedded in Bard.

Empowering developers
Key features of Gemini Pro include its outperformance in research benchmarks compared to similarly-sized models, a 32K context window for text (with plans for larger windows in future versions), and competitive pricing. The model supports 38 languages across 180+ countries and territories.

Gemini Pro’s capabilities span a range of functions, including embeddings, semantic retrieval, custom knowledge grounding, and chat functionality. The model accepts text as input and generates text as output, with a dedicated Gemini Pro Vision multimodal endpoint available for processing both text and imagery.

Developers can now leverage SDKs for Gemini Pro, supporting Python, Kotlin, Node.js, Swift, and JavaScript.

Google AI Studio – a free web-based developer tool – provides a seamless experience for prompt development and obtaining API keys for app development. This tool offers a generous free quota of 60 requests per minute, significantly exceeding other free offerings.
