Tupac's case went unsolved for nearly 30 years. Then the man who repeatedly placed himself in the front passenger seat of that Cadillac published a memoir about that night. A Las Vegas jury needed less than three hours to convict him.

Duane “Keffe D” Davis had already told investigators his version of what happened back in 2008 under a proffer agreement. For years, those statements became the center of a legal discussion over what prosecutors could use against him.

Then Davis started telling the story publicly. Interviews, documentaries and eventually his 2019 memoir, Compton Street Legend, where he placed himself inside the Cadillac and described his role that night. His defense later argued that he exaggerated those stories for money and notoriety.

Those public statements changed everything. The book helped revive the investigation, Davis was arrested in 2023, and prosecutors ultimately built much of their case around his own words. More than 24 witnesses testified, while his defense emphasized the lack of physical evidence directly tying him to the scene.

The jury deliberated for less than three hours before finding him guilty in Tupac’s case. Davis now faces sentencing on October 13 and plans to appeal.

For decades, investigators couldn't get a conviction. In the end, some of the strongest evidence came from Keffe D himself.
