Sometimes what you don’t show is more powerful than what you do.

For this Kickstarter video around lithium battery safety, the obvious route would have been dramatic footage of fires and explosions.

Instead, we focused on something quieter:
a mother watching her son fall asleep beside a charging device.

What’s unsettling comes less from what’s shown, and more from what the audience starts imagining alongside her.

Interesting how restraint can sometimes be more effective than explicit imagery.

A recent project I worked on for Jetro, a compact fridge purifier designed to extend food freshness and reduce waste.

The challenge was to turn a fairly technical product into something people can immediately understand and relate to.

I built the concept around a simple idea:
what if you could pause the moment before food starts to go bad?

From there, everything followed:
– a time-based narrative (freeze / rewind)
– a contrast between decay and control
– a mix of live action, 3D and VFX to visualise what normally stays invisible

AI also played a role in the process, particularly for VFX and dynamic image-to-video transitions, helping elevate the visual storytelling while maintaining a cinematic feel.

Always interesting working at the intersection of storytelling, product, and technology.

Is using AI in production really just a shortcut?

This video was my first commercial project where I integrated AI into a live-action workflow.

What I found interesting is that it didn’t replace the production, but it definitely extended what I could do within the constraints of a project like this.

The project was a Kickstarter video for a fridge purifier.

Some of the things I was able to do with AI:

– Create visuals of fruit decomposing from still frames of the original footage
– Turn them into time-lapse sequences
– Enhance camera movement and transitions from static shots
– Fix a shot that would have otherwise required a full reshoot (location, talent, everything)

There’s a lot of conversation around AI taking people’s jobs, but on a project like this, working mostly on my own and within a limited budget, it makes a huge difference.

At the same time, nothing replaces working with real people. And especially in this case, nothing makes me more proud than having my son featured in the video.

That contrast is what I find most interesting right now.

Still early, but genuinely excited about where this hybrid approach can go.

"AI will steal your job."

After 15+ years working in video, that hits differently, especially as I get closer to 50.

I thought I'd feel threatened watching AI evolve this quickly.

Instead, I found myself genuinely excited.

Because these tools don't replace the creative decisions, they remove some of the constraints around them.

AI can generate impressive visuals, but it still can't decide what a story is really about, or what to leave out; the rhythm, the emotion, the restraint still come from experience.

I've been experimenting with this through a short narrative trailer (this one).

Still early, but really curious to see where this goes.

Some debts were never paid.

9 Nights is a poetic short film with visual artist Sonia E. Barrett, commissioned by the City of London Corporation as part of the Rendering the Alternative programme at Guildhall Art Gallery.

Filmed within a space shaped by imperial history and colonial legacy, Sonia’s work introduces the Remembrancer Cloth as a gesture of remembrance, inviting reflection on unpaid debts to the enslaved, to those in modern-day slavery, and to the natural world.

It was an honour to collaborate with Sonia on a commission that engages with questions of memory, responsibility, and historical legacy.

It was great to work with the team at Parkopedia by Arrive at intercharge network conference in Berlin, producing their latest communication video for World EV Day.

Held at the historic Tempelhof Airport, ICNC25 is one of the largest gatherings dedicated to shaping the conversation around the future of eMobility.

It was inspiring to contribute to such an important dialogue, capturing insights from global leaders driving the future of electric mobility.

Creating an effective and engaging Kickstarter video involves much more than just a camera and editing software—it’s about the collaboration and synergy of talented individuals, each contributing essential elements to bring a compelling video to life. From crafting a killer script to finding the perfect voice-over artist with just the right tone, to capturing the ideal expression on camera 🎥✨.

I had the pleasure of working with the incredibly talented model, , whose professionalism and presence added so much to our latest project 💫.

Truly grateful! 🙏

"Your pitch video is an opportunity to weave together the story of your team, the impact of your product or service, and the vision you’re striving to bring to life."

"A successful crowdfunding video requires a harmonious blend of essential business proposition elements, creativity, and the art of reflecting a brand’s distinct voice. At the same time, it should carve out a platform for the founders to authentically showcase themselves, offering potential investors a genuine glimpse into their passion and motivation."

One of the things I like the most about working on crowdfunding videos is the chance I have to meet and work with inspired and passionate founders, with a strong believe in their idea and product, and the desire and commitment to make the difference and to have a positive impact.

The authenticity of that commitment and passion reveals the real value of a business proposition – this is why I always advise my clients to be on camera, rather than choosing a generic voice over narration, when working on a pitch video.

Founders just like Nikki Garg (née Gandhi) and Suhani Bhudia of The Good Pea Co., a brand with the aim of doing good for the planet and its people, with their delicious (I tried it, not only filmed it!) plant-based milk alternative, with 74% less carbon emission than dairy.
We had a fun video shoot and I look forward to sharing the video and details of their crowdfunding campaign on Seedrs.
