Almuth Tebbenhoff – The Book
Almuth Tebbenhoff is a sculptor and she is good at trying. Almuth left her family farm in rural Germany for the freedom of London with the aim of becoming an artist. From making pots she began creating ceramic sculptures. When her father left her an old Volvo full of his beloved welding equipment, she signed up for a metal fabrication course and started welding wall-hung sculptures from steel angle sections. During a three-month residency with Studio Sem in Pietrasanta Almuth learned the art of traditional marble carving. It’s the simple fact of working with her hands, the physical labour of art, that draws her restless spirit to sculpture.
Almuth Tebbenhoff – the book – is a journey through the artist's mind. It traces the process by which objects of beauty can emerge from a messy afternoon pushing and pummeling clay, noisy sessions cutting and welding steel or nursing your hurting hands after following in Michelangelo's footsteps.
