Unbreakable glass was invented by accident. In 1903, French chemist Edouard Benedictus accidentally dropped a flask filled with nitrocellulose. The glass cracked, but did not break. Realizing this, Benedictus produced the first modern windshields to reduce the number of victims of car accidents.
