Lidl to sell ‘stunted’ fruit and vegetables after UK drought

As if lidl wasn’t already one of the best supermarkets - hello middle aisle and fair wages. They are now leading the charge on waste not want not. Because of this year's long hot summer, much of the country is officially in a drought. This unfortunately means that crops are in danger of failing and potential shortages. Well, Lidl's solution to this is to take all the weird and wonderful vegetables that would normally be rejected. Good for farmers, good for full bellies and good for the planet. Nice one.

Cambridgeshire man, 92, passes GCSE maths exam with top mark

I last time that Derek Skipper took a maths exam he was using a slide rule and not really paying attention to what he was learning. After hearing of a young person struggling with their maths course he decided to look into it. Saying some people do crosswords or sudoku - this is what he has chosen. So after all that effort on Zoom lessons he's achieved the highest grade for his foundation maths course. Well done Derek, proving you’re never too old to learn something new.

Hope not hate: most social media posts on Lionesses positive, study shows

A study has shown that for every negative post about the lionesses there are a whopping 125 singing their praises. Not only that but there was very little negativity directed towards individual players and shows how positive feelings are towards women's football. This is quite a different story from the 2020 mens euro final where England lost on penalties. Although a different situation it does show hope and the bright future of women's football in the UK.

Map may show evidence of Wales' Atlantis off Ceredigion

There is a Welsh legend that speaks of a hidden lost kingdom that's been around since the 1200s maybe even earlier. Well two academics have just found proof that the legend may have been true this whole time. First a mediaeval map showing two islands in Cardigan Bay was discovered. This along with the legend was enough to push Professor Simon Haslett to go and find them. And he's only gone and proven that they were there, and the legend of a Welsh Atlantis was true all along.

'Inclusive Barbies are a major step in my life'

A group of celebs are involved in a new line of barbies being released by Mattel this week. These new barbies include a doll in a wheelchair, one with a prosthetic leg, another with a hearing aid and a ken doll with vitiligo. Representation matters and these dolls are not only going to be incredible for children who have grown up with these disabilities or conditions, but they show all children that these things are normal and a part of life. *sniff sniff* can someone hand us the tissue box?

Women in Finland post party videos to back PM Sanna Marin

You may have seen that a video was recently leaked to the press in Finland of their Prime Minister Sanna Marin at a party. In this video she is dancing at one of her friends' houses and generally having a good time. But this video has caused quite the stir because she's a young woman who’s in a position of power and that means she can’t do those things apparently. Well there is a silver lining to this story because women all over Finland have been posting videos of themselves at parties in support of their PM. Because in the words of Sanna herself she's an “individual, a real person as well as a prime minister”. Don’t you just love to see women supporting other women?

The Ukraine ravers mixing parties with cleaning up war damage

In Northern Ukraine a youth organisation called Repair Together have been organising ‘clean up raves’. With DJs and techno for motivation local volunteers and ravers have been cleaning up the ruins left by the war. This is only the start for a cultural centre - which the group have plans to rebuild to its former glory. See? Ravers aren’t so bad after all.

Remains of small armor-plated dinosaur unearthed in Argentina

A new type of dinosaur has been uncovered in Argentina. Obviously it’s only a fossil now, but they think it would have walked upright on its hind legs. Plus it would have been well protected due to disk shaped bone structures all the way down its back and tail. Okay here’s the best bit - it was about the size of an average house cat when it was alive. Like a tiny armoured stegosaurus - so cute.

The Gabon woman who went from teacher to bamboo bike maker

Whilst working as a teacher in Gabon, Grace Mabika could see the strain that walking miles and miles to school everyday put on her pupils. So she decided to do something about it, and started making bikes out of bamboo. Her company, Bamga bicycles, is the first to make bikes out of bamboo. She dreams of making the bikes more affordable and to ‘democratise’ access to bikes. Not only that but half her bikes are specifically designed for women. Grace is a bit of a legend in case you hadn’t noticed.
