In July I recorded the AMAR International Charitable Foundation Yazidi Women's choir, who were on tour in the UK. They are unique and come from Khanke camp in N Iraq, where they have lived for 10 years. Music not only gives thier threatened culture resilience and meaning, but also has been a significant support to thier mental health. This project is supported by AMAR Foundation, with whom I work, and has ambitions, not only to support the Yazidis, following the genocide by ISIS, but also ensure that mental health provision is included in the UN charter for refugees, and we want to show that Music is a component of cultural and mental health provision.
