FL1GHT, 2022.

80 x 120 cm, mixed media installation; wood, aluminium, steel, acrylic.

New work on display with for our group show ORBITS.

FL1GHT (2022) is a new mixed media work consisting of digital collage, photography and sculpture investigating systems of memory, the internet and artificial images. Taken from an ongoing body of work, FL1GHT confronts issues of materiality, representation and the value of images within existing digital landscapes. Created through digital and physical processes of production such as Photoshop, direct UV media printing and CNC cutting (Computer numerical control), fragmented image textures, photographs and industrial materials are layered and cut to form a modular assemblage. Ideas of re-mixing, movement, and automation of digital materials surround the new work as the artist playfully invites the viewer to interact with synthetic and natural materials. Significantly, FL1GHT attempts to deconstruct and rebuild the surface of the screen and subconscious spaces whilst exploring failure and representation of the photograph via subconscious and mechanical processes.

The show is open from 11am-5pm until 31st July (tomorrow).

A massive shoutout to for doing such an amazing job. ✨

Many thanks to everyone that has visited so far, been an amazing experience 🙏🏽 💙

Posted • Exhibition design for Craft School: A Summer of Playful Making, now open at the Crafts Council Gallery in Islington.

Craft School features six winning entries from Yinka’s Challenge, a national school’s competition developed in collaboration with multi-disciplinary British-Nigerian artist Yinka Ilori. Learners from across KS1–KS4 were invited to explore themes of play, storytelling and empowerment through making. Selected objects from the Crafts Council Collection are also exhibited, and a making space allows visitors to experiment with clays, textiles and paper.

Adapted, repainted plinths from the Crafts Council’s existing stock are used to display the winning models, while wall-mounted perforated hardboard panels serve as information and comment spaces.

We commissioned a set of illustrations by Isaac Holland to describe the Crafts Council’s Make First pedagogy, inviting learners to take a direct, ‘thinking through making’ approach to craft.

Thank you to the brilliant Crafts Council team – Hannah Ford, Sumitra Upham, Rebecca Goozee, Zoe Dennington, Max Campbell, Louise Kelly, Deborah Ridley, Francis Taylor and Alex Williamson; and as always Rebecca Cooper at Omni Colour.

Rhea Storr ‘Uncommon Observations: The Ground that Moves Us’ for ❤️❤️🙌🙌👏👏👏👏

Posted • We are thrilled to present ‘Uncommon Observations: The Ground that Moves Us’, an ambitious multi-site commission by Rhea Storr ()! On view at Stratford, Bethnal Green, Notting Hill Gate & Heathrow Terminal 4.✨

A series of large-scale captioned photographs created using an outdated military surveillance photographic film called Aerochrome, once used for monitoring and control and now used with experimental openness. The images were produced during a photoshoot with artist .blackstock and staged in spaces of common land across London.

Running parallel to the photoshoot, Storr conducted a series of research conversations with London Underground station staff to gain further understanding of their work in stations. These conversations informed the artist’s writing process, producing captions for the images.

As viewers move past the work in stations, along passageways, escalators and through ticket halls, they will experience the artworks as if in motion, catching sequences of Storr’s words and photographs almost as moving images and messages.
