The cozy London advertising business was shocked when the upstarts Saatchi & Saatchi took over the #1 spot from the venerable JWT in 1980. But ABM was also doing well as the article mentions. In their different ways, both agencies would have a significant impact on the industry across the first half of the decade.

Yesterday the annual BR lunch was held at Brydges Place with David Hall, Simon Galvin, Douglas Thursby-Pelham, Keith Bolton and Graham Thomas. Clare Rossi and Jane Ringe had sent last minute apologies.
No photo this year so instead a piece from Campaign, Jan 1980 that mentions that Peter Bear had moved over from the main McCann agency to Harrison McCann. Thence he would join ABM but he would later return to McCanns to run Nestle. It also notes that Mike Reynolds, who had been ECD at ABM was now taking over from Andy Rork.

Debbie Carne, who started as a graduate trainee in 1978 (and leaving in 1980), has kindly sent this Agency starter pack.
