The West Australian Ballet’s Dracula premiered three years ago and was so popular it came back to stage September 2020. Big Image UK worked with set designer Phil R Daniels to print scenery and backdrops on seamless cotton cloth Horizon and sharkstooth gauze. The neo-classical ballet, choreographed by Polish Krzysztof Pastor and based on Bram Stoker’s famous novel was performed live at His Majesty’s Theatre with the West Australian Symphony Orchestra.

August Bournonville's La Syphide is one of the world's oldest surviving ballets and is a significant Danish cultural tradition. Working with the Royal Danish Theatre, Big Image UK produced 39 unique cloths on our cotton horizon, muslin, and gauze materials for the landmark Royal Danish Ballet 2020 production in Copenhagen.

The intricate vision and design by Anja Vang Kragh and Mia Stensgaard draws the audience into the Sylph's mystical woodland knoll while reminding us that what we see first isn't always what turns out to be the truth.

A concept imagining the digital device as a tourist telescope required a super precise image to execute effectively. Here’s where Big Image UK came in: We made the aluminium LED- illuminated frame boxes and seamless prints for this campaign, appearing overnight for the launch of the new Galaxy by Samsung. The high-profile locations were Oxford Street and Westfield mall, Stratford. For Commissionedbyyou.com . The Northern Ballet’s ‘Geisha’ has just opened at the Leeds Grand Theatre. Designed by Christopher Oram, with music by Alexandra Harwood, Geisha unravels a remarkable tale based on true events.

For this production, we printed a 13m x 7.5m front cloth on 100% cotton Horizon Cloth. This black and white image of a Geisha beautifully hangs on stage before and after the production. We also printed a double-sided, 8.5m x 6m drop of illustrated flowers on our cotton cloth. We’re delighted to see these prints help bring this vivid tale to life.

Geisha is at Leeds Grand Theatre until 21 March. Then touring until 16 May.

Here’s a look back at the Latvian National Opera and Ballet's production of Johann Strauss' "At the Blue Danube" in 2017. An der schönen blauen Donau was first performed in Riga in 1957; in the 60+ years since, it has been revived numerous times and has become one of the cornerstones for Latvian Ballet.

For this majestic production we printed a breathtaking 18 metre by 11.5 metre seamless backdrop, on cotton Horizon cloth. The image of a hazy and ethereal mountain vista backdropped the romantic story about the choice between love and the stage, dreams and reality.

Druid presents Tom Murphy’s version of Chekhov’s play, ‘The Cherry Orchard’ which opened last week in Black Box Theatre, Galway. Directed by Garry Hynes, the play is about land ownership, legacy, and the struggle between tradition and change centred around a Matriarch and a big house.

Designed by Francis O’Connor, we printed a 9.5m x 3.6m on 100% cotton Horizon cloth which is hung behind the structure of the stately home the play is set in. Seen through the high double doors centre-stage, this print is double-sided; one side is a painterly blue vista, while the back side has subtle motifs of houses and electric wires only seen when backlit.

Congratulations to all the cast and crew. The Cherry Orchard is on Black Boxes stage until 7 March and then it is moving to Bord Gais Energy Theatre, Dublin from 8-11 April.

A peek into our workshop in Potsdam where you can see an 18m x 7m seamless print on gauze in production on one of our Infinitus printers. This was made for the Irish National Opera’s production of La Cenerentola.

Infinitus printers are the only ones in the world capable of digitally producing grand format prints on soft materials up to 600 square metres in size (12×50 metres) seamlessly. They use water-based, biodegradable inks that achieve ultra-rich colours from dark blacks to bright whites and can also print on one or both sides of cotton fabric. To get an idea of the in-depth printing process and detail it is capable of, it takes approximately 8 hours to produce a 12m x 6m seamless print.

Maps maps maps - sometimes the projects we work on involve printing large scale, seamless maps to backdrop a theatrical production. As our projects are bespoke, tailored to the desigeners needs, these range in size and detail. Here are three productions that include a map in the design, that we've printed:

Dracula, Western Australian Ballet.
Designer: Upstage Designs, Phil R. Daniels
We printed a 15m x 8m seamless map of London on 100% cotton Horizon.

My Fair Lady, Teatro San Carlo.
Designer: Gary McCann
We printed a 18m x 10m seamless map of London on 100% cotton gauze. The vertical lines are included in the design as folds in the map. Every street name is legible.

The Lovely Bones, Royal & Derngate.
Designer: Ana Inés Jabares-Pita
We printed a 3m x 2m map (reversed) of the United States on 100% cotton Horizon. For this unique stage set, a mirror hangs over the stage reflecting what happens on stage from above. Here you can see two actors sitting on the printed map.

Here’s a look at the set of ‘Echo’s End’, we printed for the Salisbury Playhouse in 2017. This production tells the story of a young couple in 1915 Wiltshire who find themselves caught up in the turmoil of troubled times. Written by Barney Norris, and directed by Alice Hamilton, the entire play is set outside on the Salisbury Plain.

One of the main goals for Lighting designer Howard Hudson and set designer Tom Rogers was to achieve a sense of natural light to evoke the epic undulating scale of that area at different times of day. We printed a 14-metre-wide cloud drop on 100% cotton Horizon cloth, which allowed the designers to create a wide variety of different looks for the eight scenes, ranging from dull, overcast grey days, to strong, deeply saturated sunsets. This varied backdrop was also useful for the transitions between scenes as it allowed for the actors to be silhouetted against, when the lighting was adjusted.
