What a fabulous day yesterday with Cohort 2 of the Patchwork Programme at the

We experimented. We prototyped. We got tangible.

It was our 4th Gathering, focused on exploring tools and methods for prototyping and user testing to move from thinking to doing, with children and young people and key stakeholders at the centre.

The Wellcome Collection’s new Coming of Age exhibition provided insightful inspiration and a reminder that our relationship to movement is woven through our whole life course.

In the afternoon, we were joined by brilliant speakers who shared how they experiment with change. Thank you to Niyah Campbell from Wellcome Trust, Jon Brichto from Ember the Dragon, Nazmin Mansuria from Southampton City Council, and Arunima Kapoor Duque from the LEGO Group.

Now we can’t wait to hear what children and young people make of the cohort’s prototypes. Watch this space.

Join us for the first-ever Positive Experiences Collective Conference, a virtual event on June 25th 2025, bringing people together from across sectors to share practical insights, tools, and stories that translate the theory of

Together, we’ll explore how to create more inclusive, positive experiences of movement for children and young people, with sessions grounded in real-world practice, collaborative learning, and honest reflection. This is a chance to connect, reflect, and co-create a future where every child, whatever their background, develops a lifelong love of movement and physical activity.

How do we prototype the future?
By making bold ideas tangible, co-designing and testing them with the very people they’re meant to serve.

A few weeks ago, we hosted Gathering 4 of the Patchwork Programme at the bringing together 12 brilliant, interdisciplinary teams to turn principles into real-world action.

The is part accelerator, part leadership journey. It’s rooted in the belief that our relationship with movement is shaped by a patchwork of people, places, cultures, and experiences.

People often ask, “What’s the one thing we can do to embed physical literacy?”
The honest answer? There isn’t just one thing. We need many, woven together with care across the system.

This gathering was all about doing, not just thinking. We used ’s DIBB framework (Data, Insight, Belief, Bet) to shape small, testable actions. We explored the power of aesthetic force, how storytelling and imagery can shift perspective, like the Earthrise photo that helped spark the environmental movement.

Teams brought early ideas to life through quick prototypes: sketches, props, mock-ups, and storyboards, which are now being tested with children and young people (CYP). These aren’t finished solutions. They’re invitations to CYP and system leaders to co-design, because real change starts when others can see, feel, and build on ideas.

Such great energy from everyone!
