We’ll be covering every imaginable way to ‘dress up’ your lettering: inlines, outlines, drop shadows, cast shadows, icey caps, spicey caps, chrome… you name it!

Branding & signage for .arms in Soho. The clients showed exceptional taste choosing the script option I drew for the frontage…Not something you see much of these days. Burnished drop shadow in 24crt gold was the real peach, creating a 3D effect that catches the light beautifully. The logomark reimagined heraldic elements of the crest of the Earl of Shaftesbury to which the pub owes its name, paired with a Tuscan/ Lombardic custom logotype which was tailored for various usages. All in all a nice classic look that has some class and tradition but doesn’t look like it’s trying too hard. Thanks for looking, let me know what you think in the comments :) 🧡✌️

It’s World Ampersand Day, so I’m sharing four single-stroke ampersands I painted for students yesterday at the ‘Block’ lettering workshop here in London. What’s your favourite, 1,2,3 or 4?

Note: ampersands evolved from the Latin characters ‘e’ and ‘t’ meaning ‘and’. This is most clear in the 4th version 🧡✌️

Bespoke Logotype under construction for .arms

It’s been a delight to work on the branding and frontage with the team on this flagship Soho venue. I’ll show some more sketches and developments work but these vectors show the construction underlying the finished bespoke letterforms. From here I will go back in and soften the counters and swashes but I wanted to show how it looks all nicely dialled in before we give it a bit more printed, worn look.
