This week, we’re celebrating another 10-year milestone at Havas People - this time for our Creative Director, Jon.
Jon joined us in 2016 as a Senior Copywriter, before quickly becoming Head of Copy. Within about two months of that, all our copywriters left. You can read into that what you will.
Thankfully, things have worked out rather well since. Today, Jon leads a stellar creative team as Creative Director - a role he’s held for the past four years, alongside his partner in crime Dan Gregory.
We asked Jon what moment from his time here still makes him smile:
“Less one moment and perhaps more a sustained recruitment strategy. I have this habit of having an initial chat with people and then some 18 months or 2 years later, they join the agency.”
It’s a line that sums Jon up rather well. Over the years he’s helped shape not just the work our agency creates, but the people behind it too - championing talent, mentoring young creatives and building a culture people genuinely want to be part of. One where good ideas (and the people who have them) can thrive.
His work carries real heart too. Across far too many projects to mention, but most significantly, as creator of The Life Jacket (a su***de prevention initiative that has genuinely helped save lives) Jon's taught us just how powerful creativity can be when it’s used for something that truly matters.
It's something that's reflected in his answer to what’s changed most in the ten years he's been with us:
“I think one big change is that we’re no longer simply helping brands tell their stories, creating recruitment campaigns or delivering internal initiatives. We’re going further and exploring the role work can and is playing in people’s lives, beyond the job.”
And in his thoughts on what hasn’t changed at all:
“The need for creativity. Without an idea and a creative way of solving the problem, you’ll get nowhere fast. It’s also boring.”
Jon, thank you for ten years of sharing your ideas, craft, leadership and brilliant sense of humour with us. Our colleagues past and present are truly lucky to work alongside you.
