During mental health researchers, experts and advocates came together in London to launch the Wellcome Prize for Mental Health Science with Nature – the world’s largest prize dedicated to transforming .

The evening opened with a unique Shakespeare-inspired performance, highlighting how mental health has long shaped our stories. It was a creative reminder of the need to do better – as host challenged: “Surely, in 2026, we can all do better than that.”

Throughout the night, voices from around the world – across science, policy, clinical practice, and lived experience – echoed a common theme: urgency to act, optimism about breakthroughs, and a call for collaboration. Notable contributors like , Magdalena Skipper, and Miranda Wolpert emphasised the power of working together to turn evidence into impact. The atmosphere was one of shared purpose, with researchers, clinicians, innovators, and advocates all energised by the opportunity to change the future of mental health.

Now the real action begins: applications for the prize are officially open to individuals and teams worldwide developing innovative interventions for anxiety, depression, or psychosis. The top award is US$1M with three additional prizes of US$250,000 for runners-up.
