It's a simple 3 stage strategy,
1- attract
2- sell
3- wow

"It can't be that simple", I hear you saying.

So here is the stages in detail:
1- The goal of the Attract Phase is to get the attention of your potential customers you want that will buy your products or services. The stage includes correct targetting, attracting Interest through up to date methodologies such as free trials, ebooks, a content filled social media, and lead Collections
2- You obviously have to sell to start the beginning of the "customer lifespan". And this is the second phase of the model. This will be your unique strategy that makes your product or service the clear obvious choice when those you’ve attracted are interested and ready to buy.
The key rule to stage 2, and an ABSOLUTE MUST: always train your sales team, if you have a multi tasked team, they will HAVE to be taught how to sell professionally. Leads can be expensive so it pays dividends to convert them efficiently!
3- The last phase is almost always neglected. Sometimes the opposite happens. To satisfy a customer, everything promised has to come to fruition and on time, at the very least. And to wow them you will over deliver, complete everything on time, possibly quicker, follow through when needed, and last but not least have additional services that will blow them away. Services that offer more value of course has a higher inherent monetary value aswell!!

We can see almost everyone from your neighbour to his cat is on social media right now. Competition is growing on a daily basis at an exponential rate.

As you've worked out organic traffic, in this highly competitive market, can't take you anywhere near where it could in the past.

Now we turn to paid ads, (interruption marketing) basically paying Facebook, or whatever platform you choose to use to put your posts in front of peoples feeds/content consumption.
These Ads can be wonderful if you know what you're doing as you can accurately target a specific demographic to push your content out (placing the bone πŸ– in front of the dog 🐢). Sounds too good to be true. But thankfully its Not πŸ’ͺβœ‹ high five!!

That was a little context, now for the 2019 predictions:
Social media is huge, advertising is the only way to grow big fast!! Advertising costs money and now with all the huge conglomerates jumping in whom have huge budgets to spend, you will end up competing with them for the market space. They will also be competing with themselves, this will eventually sideline huge sectors of the marketplace to people with the big budgets, as advertising costs will soar very high.
If you plan to stay in social media long term, the time to strike is now, costs will only rise to the point the majority will be priced out. This doesn't mean you can't have a social media, but will mean the monetization aspect will be severely affected.
