Website trends change. But the basics still matter.

A good small business website in 2026 should help people:
• understand what you do
• find the right service
• trust your business
• use the site easily on mobile
• know how to enquire
• see what happens next
• allow the business to update it when things change

Clever features are not much use if the fundamentals are unclear or the site becomes difficult to manage later.

Before briefing a new website, start with the customer’s questions.

What do they need to understand before they feel ready to get in touch?

A good follow-up process does not need to be complicated.

But every enquiry should have a clear next step.

With Activ Flow, the process can be easier to manage:

→ Enquiry received
→ Contact created
→ Organised
→ Added to pipeline
→ Reminder set
→ Email follow up
→ Outcome tracked

For a busy business, that structure matters.

It means enquiries are not scattered across inboxes, notes and memory. They sit in a clearer system, with reminders and next steps easier to manage. The value is not just remembering to follow up. It is being able to see what stage each enquiry is at.

Activ Flow brings CRM, email marketing, automation, lead management, follow-up reminders and reporting into one place.

There are 100 days until Christmas.

That may sound early, but for many businesses Q4 planning starts before December.

If Christmas, winter bookings or year-end enquiries matter to your business, now is a good time to check:
• Are your website details up to date?
• Are seasonal services or opening times clear?
• Is the enquiry route simple?
• Are follow-ups easy to manage?
• Do warm contacts need an email update?
• Are forms, bookings or calls to action working properly?

Good seasonal marketing is rarely about rushing at the last minute.

It is about making the next step clear before people start looking.

Have you started thinking about Christmas planning yet, or does it still feel too early?

AI can be useful when planning a website.

It can help with ideas, research and analysis, rough structure, draft copy, FAQs and organising your thoughts.

But it should not do all the thinking.

An AI-built website is not automatically a good business website.

You still need to think about:

• who the website is for
• what visitors need to understand
• how your services should be structured
• whether the wording feels credible
• who owns and controls the site
• how easy it is to update
• whether it supports SEO basics
• what happens when someone enquires

AI can be a helpful tool.

But it should not replace proper planning, judgement and support.

Have you used AI when planning website content, or would you be cautious about relying on it too much?

We’ve recently taken over website support and redesign work for Kew Windows.

This is a good example of why a website is not always a one-off project.

Kew Windows already had an existing website, but the focus now is on improving the support around it and making it easier to manage over time.

The work includes:

• moving the site onto Elementor Pro, giving the client a simpler platform for updates
• moving the website onto our server, which gives a huge improvement in speed and performance
• reviewing the structure and design
• taking over SEO management
• supporting PPC activity

For many businesses, the website needs to keep evolving.

Services change.
Content needs updating.
SEO needs managing.
Campaigns need somewhere clear to send people.
And the business should not feel stuck every time the website needs attention.

A good website should be clear for customers and manageable for the business behind it.

If your current website needs reviewing, redesigning or ongoing support, get in touch.

A website can look good and still make enquiries harder than they need to be.

Before investing in a new website or redesign, it is worth checking whether the foundations are enquiry-ready.

• Can visitors understand what you do quickly?
• Are your services clearly explained?
• Is there enough trust and reassurance?
• Does the site work well on mobile?
• Are calls to action clear?
• Is it obvious how to get in touch?
• What happens after someone enquires?

Good web design is not just about style.

It is about making the decision easier for the person visiting your site.

Save this if you are planning a website project this year.

It isn’t always the marketing that’s the problem. Sometimes the opportunity is already there, it just needs a better follow-up process

But before looking for more leads, it is worth asking:

• What happens to the enquiries you already get?
• A website form comes in while you are with a client.
• A referral arrives by email.
• Someone asks for details after a meeting.
• A quote gets sent, but follow-up gets pushed back.

It is rarely because business owners do not care.

Usually, they are busy.

A clearer follow-up process can make a real difference.

We’ve written more about this here:

People do not usually enquire the moment they land on a website.

First, they are asking themselves:

Do I understand what this business does?
Does it feel relevant to me?
Can I trust them?
Is the next step clear?

If those answers are hard to find, potential enquiries can disappear before a conversation even starts.

That is why website clarity matters.

A good website should help people understand your services, feel reassured and know what to do next.

Worth looking at your website today as if you were seeing it for the first time.

⏰ If you only had 30 seconds on your homepage, would it be clear what the business does and what to do next?

A lot of businesses say, “We never know what to post.”

But when you look closer, there is usually plenty to work with.

The questions customers ask.
The advice you repeat most often.
The projects you are proud of.
The problems you help people avoid.
The reviews people leave.
The small details that show how you work.

Those things can all become useful marketing content.

You do not need every post to be polished, complicated or sales-focused. Often, the most helpful content simply gives people a clearer understanding of what you do, how you work and whether you are the right fit.

What question do customers ask you most often?

Not everyone who sees your business is ready to enquire straight away.

• Some people need time.
• Some are comparing options.
• Some are waiting for budget.
• Some are interested, but not urgent.
• Some simply need a reminder later.

That is why follow-up matters.

Social media is useful for staying visible, but it is not the only way to keep in touch with warm contacts.

Email marketing, useful resources, reminders and follow-up processes can all help keep your business front of mind without relying only on the algorithm.

The aim is not to bombard people.

It is to stay helpful, relevant and easy to return to when they are ready.
