This is Mikao Usui, the founder of Reiki. Usui was a Buddhist monk who lived in Japan. He came to discover Reiki or maybe, Reiki came to discover him in the early 1920s whilst on a 21 day vision quest up Mount Kurama. After that he taught reiki to over 2,000 people, and if you have been trained in the Usui lineage you can trace your line right back to him. Cool huh. The grand grand grand grand daddy of Reiki ❤️

World events seem overwhelmingly hopeless and catastrophic right now. It’s hard not to get dragged down by it all. What we can do is make tiny changes in our own little worlds, small gestures of hope and kindness where we can, if we all do this - that’s how we change the world ❤️

I’m doing a foundation course learning about shamanism at the moment, it’s absolutely fascinating and already proving to be a hugely transformative experience, elements of which I am starting to weave into my own healing methods. Last night I purchased a feral pigeon wing (left) and a tawny owl wing (right) which my teacher had ethically sourced from a bird sanctuary from birds who had already passed away. They are now going to be used for smudging and saging spaces and people and it’s an honour to be able to work with such beautiful things.

Lately I’ve been attending more and more Kundalini yoga classes, it’s perhaps the strangest and most ‘out there’ branch of yoga and it is at times ridiculous but my goodness is it powerful. The crossovers with reiki are countless, and after class and for the whole day afterwards, I always feel like I could slay a dragon. It’s slowly transforming each area of my life, both on and off the mat 💫
