⚫ Sealed with coal dust. Sent to the people shaping the future of energy.
This week, the Durham Energy Council launched its new citizens’ manifesto calling for a fair, community-led energy transition – and 100 copies, each sealed with coal dust, are now on their way to the North East’s most influential energy decision-makers.
Created by local volunteers aged 18 to 85 from former mining communities, the manifesto demands that the move to renewable energy creates good jobs, supports local communities, and ensures no one is left behind.
Drawing inspiration from Durham’s historic Pitman’s Parliament at Redhills, the council believes working-class voices must help shape the region’s energy future just as they helped power its past.
With up to 25,000 new energy jobs expected across the North East by 2035, the message is simple: the transition to clean energy must be done with communities, not to them.
Proud to have supported the launch and media relations for this powerful campaign.
