Clerkenwheels takes to the streets in May to raise £10,000 for the estimable United in Design. A ride of some 267 miles from Plymouth to London’s EC1 district in time for the start of on 19 May 2026.

in Design was founded in 2020 by interior designers Sophie Ashby and Alexandra Dauley in response to the lack of inclusion in the interior design industry. Recognising the significant barriers that people of colour face in accessing opportunities within the field, they established UiD as a British diversity, equity, and inclusion charity to create pathways for underrepresented talent.

Clerkenwheels is the initiative of interior educator and podcaster with marketeer _Bourne, avid cyclists and UiD supporters.

Love the quote by the poetic Japanese designer Shiro Kuramata about his 1988 experimental Miss Blanche chair - “It has to be fake because Blanche DuBois is a fake,” Named after Blanche DuBois, the protagonist of Tennessee Williams’s 1947 play A Streetcar Named Desire. Kuramata initially experimented with embedding natural roses in the chair, but the flowers dissolved in the acrylic resin, so instead he used artificial ones which were individually tweezered into the resin. One or two have recently been sold for around $250,000 at auction.

Here two classics amalgamate - Tamart’s modernist Clore Lounge Chair upholstered in GP&J Baker’s Magnolia fabric designed in 1913 and originally inspired by 18th century brocade. Love the options that one great chair design can adapt to any situation. The Clore Lounge Chair was originally designed for the philanthropist Sir Charles Clore back in 1964. Now .designs has updated this design with foam free non toxic upholstery. It can be seen in the and at North Wales.

The vast array of craft on show left us somewhat overwhelmed. When you are looking at so much (over three wings) it can be hard to discern, scrutinise and fully embrace the thinking behind the process. We winkled out some diamonds in the rough so you don’t have to.

Highlights include a vintage child’s Thonet chair with lacework by Jingyi Li , otherworldly chunky chalcedony jewellery scattered with diamond shards alongside Brett Payne’s silver Spoons plus Japanese lacquerware by Yosh*to Yamash*ta /Mono Art and vast expressive clay vessels by Ghanaian artist Kobina Adusah . Special mention to dedicated to empowering self taught, neurodivergent and disabled artists - seen here is a spiky ceramic creature (a trademark of the artist) by non-verbal artist Shinichi Sawada. 🙏🏼

You never need an excuse to visit Paris but if you do need one then take the opportunity to visit the Musée des Arts Décoratifs at the Louvre. An expertly and imaginatively curated exhibition by  Christine Macel, Director of the museum, entitled Private Lives – From the Bedroom to Social Media explores the notion of privacy in all its forms.

Exciting to see our client TOTO’s WASHLET taking stage among the exhibits that includes work from illustrious master of photography Henri Cartier Bresson to American artist Nan Goldin and British artist Sarah Lucas.

This fascinating exhibition illustrates the evolution of privacy over the past centuries. It examines how technological developments and societal changes -from the 18th century to the present day – have impacted our relationship to privacy, and how social media is redefining the concept of intimacy.

The exhibition includes 470 works, consisting of paintings, photographs, everyday items and design objects. An icon among shower toilets, TOTO NEOREST is also part of this exhibition.💚🚽

On display until 30 March 2025 🇫🇷

One of our clients is the constantly innovating French fireplace company . Not content with sitting on their laurels they have invested heavily in the development of their sustainable fireplaces, firstly by introducing next-level glazed models and now with the introduction of the extraordinary Bathyscafocus Holographik® pictured here. People continue to be drawn to fire, whether its the flickering flames or the crackle of the burning wood - the appeal is primordial. It is a new departure for Focus and at the very highest level of fireplace innovation.

Who are the Holographik® fires aimed at? Initially, the hospitality and retail sectors as they are perfectly safe to install in the middle of public areas. Now the market is growing to include apartments and flats where access to a real fire is impossible or simply inadvisable.

In areas with high levels of pollution and particulate emissions, traditional wood-burning fireplaces can contribute significantly to air quality issues. Focus’s Holographik® fireplaces, on the other hand, emit no pollutants, making them a safe and sustainable alternative for homeowners who want the cosy and relaxing atmosphere of a fireplace without any of the negative environmental impacts. They even have the sound of a real crackling wood fire.

Focus is committed to providing sustainable solutions for all clients who want to enjoy the beauty of a fireplace without any of the negative environmental or safety impacts. They believe that their Holographik® fireplaces offer an exciting new departure for those who want to add a touch of cosiness to interior spaces without sacrificing their commitment to the environment.

Working with many clients in the interior and architectural sector means unlimited exposure to a vast array of products which is both stimulating and exciting. Deconstructing these incredible designs and projects and then communicating to the outside world is a fascinating process and one that we take great pleasure in.

We create the storytelling opportunity by digging deep into understanding our clients, their goals and dreams. By staying well informed we can share that knowledge effectively and with impact.

It is a privilege to work with visionary companies that have very high standards, are ethical, champion sustainability and who take the business of design as seriously as we do.
