Ruby was generous enough to share her story with me on the podcast - and it's one I haven't been able to stop thinking about.

Growing up in rural Nepal, experienced chhaupadi - a practice where girls and women are sent away during their period, sometimes to sleep in cow sheds, isolated from their family and banned from school.

Technically outlawed, but still very much a reality for many. She used a piece of her mum's old sari as a pad. It was ill-fitting and awkward, but it was what she had.

What struck me is that despite the stigma, Nepalese culture is deeply sustainable out of necessity - nothing is wasted, everything is reused.

Then Ruby came to the UK to study. And found a period care industry generating 200,000 tonnes of plastic waste every year.

Two very different problems. Both rooted in how we treat periods - and women.

So she built to tackle both.

You’ve seen the transformation already… but you haven’t heard how actually felt about it.

When Laura first came to me, she was feeling a bit flat - especially around her visuals and marketing, which she’d DIY’ed in Adobe Express and Canva.

Her work is powerful, but when it came to promoting herself, she didn’t know what else to do other than keep using the templates she’d created.

They were good enough… but they felt a little bland - they didn’t stand out, and they weren’t something she felt truly proud of.

Laura always knew she wanted to work on her branding ‘one day’ - to inject more personality into it and create something that would help her stand out and be remembered.

But it’s one of those things that’s easy to put off, until you realise your brand is holding you back!

When we first chatted, I could feel this energy in her - like she felt slightly trapped within her current visuals and ready to burst out and really elevate her business.

That’s the energy we tapped into during the branding process!

Fast forward to Laura rolling out her new branding on social media, announcing this new chapter of her business… and what happened?

Her energy and confidence shone through.

Alongside lots of adoring comments on the new look, she also booked a wave of consultation calls.

Coincidence?

Not really. I see this time and time again.

When talented women know their business looks good and truly reflects them, they show up differently.

When you’re proud of your branding, you naturally want to be visible, and that shift in confidence when selling is powerful.

But the line that made my heart sing?

“I feel in love with my business right now!”

If you’d like to feel this way about your brand, comment SHINE and I’ll send you the details of Brand Buff.

Let’s talk typography – the moodboard I put together for rebrand had some clear 70’s and boho vibes.

Our objective was to create a brand that felt inviting and human, while clearly positioning her as an experienced professional. Because professionalism doesn’t have to feel rigid - in Laura’s case, it’s grounded and just a little playful!

Choosing retro typography reflected not only Laura's love of this style, but also the shift toward a more intuitive living that happened with the hippy movement in the 70’s.

After I put forward the initial logo ideas, Laura happened on a font with perfect spiral flourishes – which spoke to her as a nod to the visuals traditionally associated with hypnosis without being too literal. It was perfect.

I then explored supporting typography and put forward Bernoru as a suitably bold and impactful headline font, that would complement rather than distract from the swirly fabulousness of the logo! Crucially, I was trying to balance the elements to ensure great legibility and visual harmony.

Swipe to see the development, and how the final typography hierarchy draws the eye exactly where it needs to on Laura’s socials and website.

Building a brand that stands out in the crowded fashion industry isn’t easy... it takes having a clear and unyielding point of view.

Doing something better than anyone else, even when copycats mimic your designs.

This is something Georgia Larsen, founder of knows better than most!

On my latest episode of Beyond the Brand, I speak with Georgia about what it really takes to scale a sustainable brand in a competitive market.

Having built a globally-stocked lingerie label, Georgia shares candid reflections on:

– Why authenticity is a commercial advantage
– How negotiation power shifts as you grow
– The resilience required to navigate the inevitable lows

I was invited to speak at about how brands stand out - and scale - in crowded markets.

This was the first truth I shared.

Well-established global brands can afford to rely on their logos.
Smaller and newer brands don’t have that luxury.

Trust isn’t built through a single mark.
It’s built through a visual system.

That’s why every brand we work with gets a complete visual language - because attention spans are short, competition is loud, and recognition has to happen fast.

If someone removed your logo, would people still recognise it as your brand?

If not, where could your visual identity be doing more of the work?

I’ll be sharing more insights from this talk over the coming weeks.

Hold the 3 dots to help me defrost the podcast!

After a Christmas break, Beyond the Brand is back with a fresh new episode.

This week I’m joined by Adam Wood, founder of Fablecast - and a branding client of mine - to talk through the journey of building the Fablecast brand from the ground up.

We get into the branding process in depth, alongside how the app uses technology AI to expand on, but not replace, human creativity,

A proper behind-the-scenes conversation on creativity, storytelling, and shaping a brand with intention.
That’s your weekend listening sorted ;) (link to ep in stories & bio)

Thank you all so much for your wonderful response to the first Brand Buff case study I shared. I’m excited to share another transformation! ✨

Lindsey is building a women’s health brand on a budget, and like so many founders, she’d invested in a logo but was left unsure how to bring the rest of the visual identity together. With no defined colour palette and lots of different styles catching her eye, she felt pulled in every direction.

Enter Brand Buff! 🪄

Her existing logo had such good bones - it just needed simplifying so it could work harder for her. From there, we created a set of versatile logo variations and spent most of our time exploring colour and typography to build a personality-packed identity Lindsey could confidently apply everywhere.

And the best part? Hearing how at home she now feels in her brand:

“I couldn’t be happier with the results! Cara took the time to understand my vision and brought it to life in a way that feels professional and true to my brand – I’d highly recommend her ♥️”

Swipe to see the glow-up for Fansi - and the power of a small but mighty brand refresh.

I’m so pleased to be able to share one of the projects that actually inspired my new Brand Buff service!

Last year the lovely and I worked together to elevate her brand.

First of all, I need to tell you how STUNNING Liz’s jewellery designs are, and how I could see in an instant that her brand was selling her short.

But, as a designer, Liz clearly had a good eye and was on the right track – it just needed a few tweaks…

Take a look to see what we did and the impact it has had on Liz’s brand.

While Liz went on to do the photoshoot after our work together, it really proved to me how much of a brand we had now established – I could see Liz showing up with so much more confidence and flair, and fully embracing her new brand colours, which makes my heart sing!

Can you see the transformation?
