Kicked off the year painting a Fascia for one of my favourite shops/charitys:
It’s a Fascia that I painted 7 years ago, the shop has had a bit of a refresh since then and it gave me a chance to repaint a very slightly tweaked version of my design, ironing out some bits, but still keeping the charm of the original. Battling -4 degree weather (and the Fascia freezing at one point!!) it was actually so fun to paint, and just great to see it restored to its former glory.
This Fascia has always had a favoured place in my heart and it was even more special to paint now I have a little girl whom I could shop for in there! The shop itself is an absolute Aladdin’s Cave for children’s toys and Jane and her staff are lovely,well worth a visit!

A lovely Restoration project for in St saviours Wharf completed just before Christmas.
We were tasked with adding new life to a number of historic signs on three blocks of buildings. This project was about repairing and repainting rather than redesigning as the client wanted to keep the signage exactly the same as it was. It was very fun trying to redraw and recreate the letterforms that were there before.

Just finished up a a lovely job for Pawnbrokers from the studio. This is the last job I have taken on before taking a few weeks off for impending fatherhood, and it was a really nice (and close to home!) one to do, there is something really satisfying about simple stained wood and off white lettering.
I’m now taking bookings for December and the New Year.

THE BLITZ
We got the absolute pleasure of spending a couple of months painting signs for the beautiful sets of WW2 era London for the Apple film production of The Blitz. The job was such a lovely mix of different skills and just sheer scale, From painting naive paper signs on the set of a bunker in London, to painting a huge ghost sign in Chatham (which was then set on fire!!?), to painting Thirty-something beautifully ornate shopfronts in Hull and everything in-between.
All painted with my fellow signwriter .warner.signpainter and with the occasional help of the wider sign gang at times. We also met so many other amazing painters and scenics including the talented sign painter as well as the masterful designs and concepts created by the graphic designers and the rest of the art department!
This was truly one of the most fun (and at times stressful!!) jobs we have taken on, I felt like we doubled our painting speed over this job to keep up with the output, The set pictured here was shot in an arcade in hull, and featured the aforementioned thirtysomething fascias we painted.

A nice classic gilded house number painted in town.
I love adding house numbers like this to people’s homes as it is the first thing they will see every day when they come home, and adds a certain identity to the house. I would imagine it brings the same satisfaction as seeing the name of your business painted on its premises!

Lots of things completed for The Sail Loft including three murals and lots of way-finding! Lovely to add these beautiful woodcut-inspired designs from in bursts of colour to this cosy riverside pub.
Cheers to the assistance from on this one, lots of logistics involved in transferring this design onto the canvasses (our favourite kind of puzzle!)

Absolutely lovely day painting a gold leaf fascia for in west Dulwich. The client provided some brilliant French inspired references, which we echoed in the design and adapted to produce something really bold and eye-catching.
This job was passed to me by .warner.signpainter and it was so nice being back in my old stomping ground of West Dulwich and the icing on the cake was bumping into .design within the first ten mins! Top day.

NEVERS
Another one from the months that .warner.signpainter and I spent working on ‘The Nevers’. Big old glass sign that we made for a pub set in The Nevers, managed to go for some lovely blended shadows and gold leaf on this one thanks to the trust of our lovely graphic design team. Thanks to the help of with this one too!

Some of my favourite textures and ageing effects from the course I did last year.

I learnt so many specialist finishes the scenic/theatre way, James was such a great teacher and I have been using the techniques he and Caroline taught us ever since!

I have done sporadic stints of graining marbling and ageing over the last ten years, mainly helping my dad but this was a completely different approach and so interesting to see the differences to.

Bring on more of this please!

This was a lovely project I worked on last year, a full set of signage for a lovely pottery cafe in Gloucestershire. The original signage was done by the talented signwriter David Canning who has sadly passed away.
We used a selection of his Signwriting from the shop as a reference and set out to make some smart new signs that would direct and inform people about the place.
These were all painted on dibond, delivered and then fitted by Nick at the Cafe.
