How to Market Your Website Easily

Getting traffic to your website can be one of the hardest and painstakingly annoying jobs as a website owner. You have to learn so much about search engine optimisation ( SEO ), keywords, title tags, to name just a few. For some website owners it is a really daunting task and some fail to do any marketing at all in the hope they will magically get some traffic somewhere.

Well the good news is that there are some very easy ways to increase your website’s ranking and start getting some great organic traffic.

In this guide will will cover:

Long Keyword Phrases
Content, content, content
Images
Eye Candy Titles
Importance of Internal Links
Pay Per Click Marketing
Helpful Hacks for Content Marketing
What are my Competitors Doing?
Long Keyword Phrases

These are also known as long tail keywords. The more words that a user types into a search engine the more specific the results will be. For instance, if I typed plumber then I’d receive results on plumbing techniques, plumbing videos, plumber’s websites, plumbing images, etc. However, if I typed bathroom plumber in South East London, then I would get the results that i want. You will probably get the majority of your traffic from these long keyword phrases because the shorter ones will be very well ranked for by some very tough competitors.

This works when searching for products too. Say you were looking for a Samsung Smart TV. Typing this into google would give you a lot of results from your main competitors. However, if you put extra information into the keyword phrase then you are narrowing it down even further and fewer results will be displayed. To your advantage you can then write content with these long keyword phrases in mind. If you do a simply google you will get a selection of related keywordd at the bottom of the page.

Capture

You could start by making sure your content includes some of these keyword phrases.

You can also use the Keyword Tool that is part of Google Adword. If you don’t already have an account then simply set one up for free with no obligation. Keyword Tool

Here you can type in the keyword you are listing for and then see what Google suggests. This is an amazing tool for looking at search volume. With this knowledge you can best plan which keywords to concentrate on. There is no point in concentrating on a particular keyword phrase if there is very low search traffic,

Content, content, content

Any SEO expert worth his salt will tell you the most important thing for getting traffic is having good content. They usually recommend that you have at least 500 words per page. However, this is useless if the content has no real value. If you are waffling on about how nice something is giving your watered down opinion then it is a little value to a reader. Google’s search algorithm is now clever enough to work out whether a user reading your content is likely to find the information useful and not just some thrown together article stuffed with your favourite keywords.

For example, let;s go back to the TV’s. An article on the best features on the latest Smart TV’s is going to have good traffic juice. People are more likely to read it than an article on why you should buy a Smart TV.

5 Articles reviewing 5 different smart TV’s is also going to have great link juice.

Important: Always create unique content. If you need to copy and paste from elsewhere then make sure that it takes up less than 20% of your total page content.

Images

One of the biggest missed opportunities is adding alt attribute to your images. Google uses the alt tag to rate the importance of images against the page content. If you have a page about Samsung 40 ” Smart TV then you should include this alt attribute in your image tag.

Eye Candy Titles

When you scan down google’s search results we are drawn to eye catching titles. If you searched for latest smart phones you will see lots of the same kind of results. The one result I was drawn to had the title “The Best Smart Phones to look forward to in 2015”. This looks like an interesting article. By creating a great article with a catchy title you will automatically get tons more traffic. Just be sure to include offers and other good link on this page to the rest of your website.

Eye Candy Titles

Importance of Internal Links

Most people concentrate on linking to their website pages from elsewhere on the web. Although this is very important it can take a lot of time and effort. Your first job should be to get make sure you are linking to your own content from with your own website. By linking a great article on your website to a product page will increase the ranking of the product page and thus push it up the google rankings.

Use an SEO tool like https://majestic.com, https://moz.com/ or https://ahrefs.com to explore your internal links. Find out page authority and point the pages with high page authority to pages with less authority.

Pay Per Click Marketing

This is actually going to cost you money but it is such a good way of testing the market. If you setup an Adwords campaign you will see straight away what the competition is like for a whole set of keywords that google recommends. Ignore the expensive ones as these are the ones that most of your competitors will be using. Find some that have less traffic and that aren’t too expensive. Then run your campaign with a daily budget for a few weeks and see which of the long keyword phrases got you most traffic. I have a keyword phrases that get me hardly any traffic but when the ads gets clicked it costs me next to nothing and the traffic is usually looking for exactly what my page is offering.

Helpful Hacks for Content Marketing

There are literally hundreds of little tweaks and hacks that can help you get ranked higher, some of them I have mentioned in this article. Your best tool in the world of website marketing is google. There are literally hundreds of articles on website marketing all with their own unique ideas. So get on google and start doing some research.

If time is of the essence then you could purchase a book that concentrates on the best and easiest website marketing techniques. I recommend this one to all my new clients. It’s on its 3rd edition so you know it’s up to date with the latest google changes.

What Are My Competitors Doing?

Lastly, I can’t urge you enough to research your competitors and see what they are doing. Ask yourself these questions:

What articles do they have?
What’s the most eye catching part of their website?
Do their web pages look stylish?
Do they have any videos?
Where are they getting their backlinks?
Why are they above me in Google?
These and more important questions are also in the book.

Quick SEO Tips To Get Your Website Ranked High
Without a good visibility on search engines, people interested in your website will never know you even exist.

SEO practices are driven primarily by Google, and change frequently. This post, which covers important SEO tips for bloggers , has plenty of links to information pages of Google. These links will allow you to skip outdated or incorrect SEO tips that unfortunately still permeate the web.

Apart from being in constant evolution, SEO may become in some cases complicated and technical, but these tips are the basis for improving the visibility of your website on the search engines.

Contents

1 SEO Strategy
2 Optimising content
3 Website Structure
4 Composition of Content
5 Images and videos
6 Google authorship
7 Offsite Activities
8 SEO agencies to avoid

SEO Strategy

The following five points offer a general framework for your SEO activities. Perhaps a sixth point would be: do not pin all hopes on one thing. A great SEO strategy requires balance, therefore pays attention both to the opportunities of on-site optimization that those off-site.

The quality of the content has to be your main concern for on-site SEO.
For keywords, the user’s intent is an important consideration, since the most valuable traffic comes from users who are interested in doing business.
Think of visibility rather than the league, because rankings vary from user to user, and users search based on the type of content (images, news, etc.).
A steady increase in growth of organic search traffic is usually the best indicator of a good SEO campaign.
As regards the link building, quality is more important than quantity.
Optimising Content

Your website must not only keep readers interest, must also be constructed so that Google can find it, read it and display it properly in search results. Even the most brilliant content must be optimized in order to use its full potential for visibility.

Set the default URL of the post as the page titles.
The page title (H1 tag) should be equal to the default title tags.
The page title should include keywords, preferably at the beginning.
The page titles should always be unique and relevant to the content.
Users of WordPress should use Yoast WordPress SEO Plugin or All in One SEO pack .
Always write a unique meta description and appealing, with a call to action (if necessary) for your page, as it will increase the click-through rate .
Read this page of Google with extreme care to know basic concepts of titles and descriptions. Titles and Snippets
Include sharing buttons on social networks on all of your pages as social signals are related to the Google rankings.
Website Structure

Many themes for WordPress and other CMS platforms are SEO-friendly, but when you modify them it makes a big difference with respect to Google’s ability to find and classify content.

Avoid long blogroll in the sidebar, as too many outbound links can reduce the positioning.
Do not participate in link exchange programs.
Link internally to important pages on your website, but do it selectively.
Avoid anchor text full of keywords for outbound links, unless they are extremely relevant and respect the natural flow within the narrative.
Use Google Webmaster Tools to identify and fix broken links and other problems damaging the site for SEO.
Redirect all URLS of your website to “www” (tuosito.it → www.tuosito.it).
Use robots.txt to prevent Google personalised page scanning that does not need indexing, such as content off topic.
To improves the speed of loading pages get good hosting, empty the cache, use image compression and other techniques.
Composition of Content

Going back five years or so, the SEO copywriting involved a lot of rules about how and where to insert the keywords in a post. Today, Google is smart enough to interpret the theme of a page and its relevance without strict adherence to these rules, which is great news for website owners who want to focus on human readers!

Original content beats the duplicate content by a large margin.
Do not overuse keywords in the text of the post.
Keywords underlined, italic, bold, or in numbered or bulleted lists are slightly more powerful than keywords in plain text.
The number of words is not as important as it once was, but all other things being equal, the longer your oages are the better placed your website will be.
Your priority should be to write SEO useful, relevant and authoritative content for human readers, because that’s what Google is looking for.
Images and Videos

The search for images and video on Google can attract a huge amount of traffic . If you are a creative business such as graphic design, or any kind of business where customers may want to see pictures or videos then image and video optimization are essential.

Use relevant keywords in the file name of the image.
Write descriptive alt text for images as simple sentence.
Write useful and interesting image captions, because they keep visitors on your page longer.
Follow the guidelines for webmasters to publish Google Images .
Follow the best practices for video Google Webmaster.
Google Authorship

Traditionally, Google primarily associated the content to the website on which it is published. Google authorship is a new program that instead maps the contents to its author. In time, we will probably see the authors of high authority ranking higher than authors of lower authority, making it important for bloggers to start now to participate in the authorship program.

Actively participates on Google+.
Since the original content is immediately indexed and ranked in Google, write original , useful content full of keywords on your Google+ posts .
Link your Google+ profile to all blogs and sites where you write.
Whenever possible, connect the Google+ profiles of guest bloggers on your blog.
Write good content on Google+ to appear in search results of Google.
Offsite Activities

When relevant and high quality websites link to your website, it is as if to say to Google that your blog content is authoritative, relevant, useful and interesting. Establish and maintain a solid profile link is probably the most important SEO activity on which you need to commit.

Allow guest posting on important and influential blogs to build inbound links.
Invite relevant and influential bloggers to do a guest post on your blog, to build social and business traffic.
Be ultra-selective when subscribing to directories, they are generally not the most effective way to build inbound links.
Avoid making link building duplicate content on websites of press releases.
Avoid making link building by posting press releases “non-news”.
Review the profile of your links, remove links to sites of poor quality, fixes broken links and update the links good in accordance with modern best practice.
Optimize your YouTube channel and video.
Agencies to Avoid

Many website owners work with SEO agencies or freelancers, in order to cover all steps above. There are a lot of very talented people to choose from – but there are also some that bloggers you would do well to avoid.

Avoid agencies that promise the # 1 Ranked or tons of free links.
Avoid agencies that do not have a documented transparent description of their methodology.
Avoid agencies that do not provide detailed reports of the activities and / or results.
Avoid agencies that do not provide customer references.
Avoid agencies that speak too technical.
As you can see, there is already a lot of stuff to digest, and as for the SEO, this is still just an appetizer.

List of Link-Building Strategies

Ask a Webmaster: The more you actually know and interact with the person, the better your chances are to get a link. Try asking in person (gasp!). Use your professional connections and others you actually know and who know you.

Find Quality Sites and Emulate their Back Link Profiles: They don’t have to even be in your niche, although that always helps. See what sites are ranking for high-competition keywords (Forex, gold or weight loss for example) and try to figure out their secret sauce.

Social Media Profiles: Links from social media sites help convince Google you are real, your content is worth consuming and you’re trying to be a go to source in your niche.

Social Media Posts: Google and other search engines are getting better at indexing and counting social media posts. It’s not all the way there but it will only get better. *Hint* Google definitely can index Google+ posts.

Create Viral Content: Make a great infograph, meme, video or anything else that links back to your site. If it goes viral, you’re going to get a ton of links coming back to you.

High-Traffic Sites: They must be doing something right. Figure out what and copy it. Also try getting a link yourself. Maybe they are breaking some rules small sites can’t. Store that knowledge away for later.

Authority Sites: Mimic and improve upon on what authority sites are doing in your niche, in your industry and in general.

Analyze Competition: SEO is like you and another person running from a bear. You don’t have to be faster than the bear — you just have to be faster than the other person. Likewise, your back link profile doesn't have to be perfect — it just needs to be better than your competition. Research their back links, do your best to mimic their profiles and then get more on top of that.
Learn to Deal with “No's”: Your site probably is not as important/smart/cool/funny/awesome as you think it is. Don’t be surprised if other people don’t flock to give you links. You’ll hear “no” a lot, or nothing at all. Learn to deal with it.

Sponsor Something: Find a charity, sports team or event to sponsor. Make sure they have a website and ask for a link. You’d be surprised how much link juice a Little League website can have!

Stop Caring About No Follow/Do Follow: If the link you’re building is “no follow,” that’s OK. Google expects to see a certain amount of these links and it’s unnatural if they're missing. There is a lot of research that says link juice still gets passed regardless of the link tag.

YouTube: Google owns it. Google trusts it. Build links here.

Create Infographics: People love simple, and it doesn’t get more simple than changing boring data into pictures. Infographics will be shared and linked to, and thus help your link building.

Break a Story: If you have the means and ability, get out there and tell the world something new. People will be throwing links at you like beads at Mardi Gras if you break some news.

Create a Blog: If you don’t already have one, create a blog. Fresh, quality content will attract links like moths to flames.

Create Good Content: Simple but true. People won’t link to garbage.

Create Evergreen Content: Make content about something that isn’t going to change in your niche anytime soon (The 10 Most Important…, Why You Should Never…, etc.). This will go a long way to boosting your authority.

Become an Expert: Tim Ferris talks about becoming an expert in the 4 Hour Work Week. It’s not as hard as you think and will help you build links like a boss. *Hint* You’re an “expert” to anyone who knows less than you on a subject.

Consistently Create Content: Stay consistent with your content creation. Don’t publish a ton of content and then go away.

Partner with Another Site/Author: Find someone who has what you’re missing (connections, traffic, charm, wit…) and partner up with them. Bring something to the table they don’t have and they will be itching to help.

Moderate a Forum: There’s no better way to build links and become an expert at the same time.

Answer Questions on Yahoo Answers, Quora and Other Sites: People have questions. Answer them. Instant expert status!

Find Something Missing in Your Niche and Create It: Is there not an authoritative blog, forum, or other content platform in your niche? Be the one to make it happen!

Put Together a Curated List: Find the best and brightest out there and put it all together in one place.

Publish at the Right Times: Look at your analytics and what others are doing. Do posts get more traction on certain days? Certain times of the day?

Email Signatures: Often overlooked, but don’t forget about adding your link to an email signature. Make it easy for people to link to you.

Business Cards: Yeah it’s old school — but it works.
Word of Mouth: Be helpful, nice (or at least civil) and go out of your way to provide people with a service and they will tell others about you.

Leave Comments: Yes, this tactic has gotten a bad rap due to spammers, but it has value when done right. Comment on high-quality, relevant pages. Even if they don’t let you link back in the comments, consistent commenting can endear you to a webmaster.

Guest Posts: Again, don’t go all black-hat spammy on this and pay for guest posts but link up with real people and offer to bring some value to their site.

Interviews: Create a great interview with someone more important than you. Other less-important people will link to you.

(Honest) Testimonials/Reviews: Leave your real thoughts about a product or service and leave out the selling and affiliate link.

Write Local Reviews: Want to connect with local businesses? Find ones you like and actually support and write a review. Let it simmer for a bit and then drop them a line. You’ve already provided value for them, so you’ve got your foot in the door.

Rewrite an Old Post: Put a new spin on a famous or well-known post/piece of content in your niche. Or dust off some of your own classic stuff and update it.

Disagree with Someone: You don’t have to be mean, but sometimes playing the Devil’s Advocate and disagreeing with someone will get you noticed faster.

Use/Create Images: People love pictures, and they always want them for free. Submit your images to sites like Flickr that allow for creative commons usage.

Participate in Forums: Not as good as moderating them but you can build your reputation in a community and still build back links.

Speak at Local Events/Conferences: Yes, this requires real-world interaction but nothing marks you as an expert more than teaching other people stuff.

Tap your Suppliers: You do business with them, they know you and they probably have websites.

Tap your Customers: It’s not uncommon to leave a link on something you create for customers. Plenty of website designers, SEO professionals and others get a link on their customer’s websites for the work they have done.

Create Software/Plugins/Themes: Give the world something valuable and throw your link in there for credit.

Use Contests: Who doesn’t love something for nothing? Create a contest on your blog, social media or other platforms to get others linking back.

Make THE Definitive Guide: Create the ultimate authoritative work (or at least something super helpful) and give it away.

Online Business Directories: If you are able to list your business on a directory, do it. You’ll almost always get a backlink.

Join Local Business Groups: The BBB, Chamber of Commerce and local networking groups almost always have a place where you get a link back to your site. Google likes these a whole bunch.
Make a Donation: Get listed on a donor page.

Link in Pyramids: When building links, use a pyramid shape with your main site at the top. Link only the best and most Google-friendly links to your site. Link to those with lower-quality links and focus on volume. This insulates your main site from Google’s wrath.

Be Genuine: Fakeness can be universally sniffed out. If you’re only in it for the link and not to help, then don’t be surprised when you get limited results.

Be Nice: Given a choice, people want to work with other people they like. There is no reason to be mean, difficult or nasty even when you disagree with other people.

Link Out: Link to others first and it will come back to you eventually. You can’t be stingy with link love and expect others to be generous.

Try New Things: What new things? I don’t know, that’s why they are new! Solve a need, answer a question or provide something in a way no one else has or a way in which you really like.

Articles: Yes, these are a little “5 years ago,” but if you don’t go all spammy with them and create quality content, they will help your quest.

Forum Profiles: Those forums you’re participating in? Well they usually have profiles that allow users to link out.

Document Sites: Turn your content into documents (presentations, PDFs, etc.) and submit them to these well-respected and trusted sites.

Web 2.0 Sites: WordPress, Squidoo and many other Web 2.0 sites are out there and will let you post a whole lot of stuff.

Social Bookmarking Sites: Better used for building links to your links, these handy links get indexed quickly and can help your content get found.

Create RSS: Syndicate your content and watch it go.

Press Releases: Google may have devalued these backlinks recently, but that doesn’t mean they don’t still bring something to the table.

Create/Contribute to Wikis: Again, create content people want to read and they will beat a path to your door.

Buy Them: Not exactly on the up-and-up, but it’s a way to build links. If you depend on your website for your living, steer clear. If you’re looking to boost content on other massive sites (YouTube videos, web 2.0 pages, etc.) that won’t get dinged, then this is something you should be looking into.

PPC: You’re not buying a link, but you’re sending more people to your site and the end result could very well be more links. If you’re going to go this route, make sure you set up the right tracking so you know you’re getting a good ROI.

Auto/Mass Build Links: Tools like Scrape Box are extremely powerful and can literally build hundreds of thousands of links very quickly. You’re playing with dynamite here, so you better know what you’re doing.

Paid Directories: While this may seem to fall on the Dark Side of link building, it’s not necessary all bad. Yahoo has a very powerful business directory that costs ~$275 a year to join.

Relevant Government Sites: Google loves .gov links because they are so hard to get legitimately. If you can find a way to get a link back from one, you’ve hit gold, my friend.

Library Sites: Guess who runs most libraries? The government! Even if it’s not a .gov link, these are trusted and usually not too hard to get. Poke around your local library’s site to find out how.

Affiliate Programs: By setting up an affiliate program, you’ll get tons of links back. They may not be considered the best quality-wise, but the quantity will make up for that.

Colleges: Google loves educational links almost as much as it loves government links. Colleges often have student-run blogs, tons of organizations to support and many more opportunities. Offer a free seminar on your area of expertise and opportunities will open up.

Craigslist: Yup, you can post links here back to your site too. Just make sure to stay within the terms of service and don’t be spammy.

Swap Links: Direct link swaps may not be the most valuable, but you’re still diversifying your link profile.

Makes News: Why break news when you can make it? Do something newsworthy and get your links on all kinds of syndicated news sites.

Create a Free Tool: Calculators, estimators and other free tools people and other sites can actually use will get you backlinks as well.

Hold Webinars/Google+ Hangouts/Skype Conference Calls: The online version of speaking engagements breed link-building opportunities as well.

Create an App: Turn your (or someone else’s) free tool into a free app.

Write an E-Book: Again, give and you shall receive!

Contribute to Crowdsourcing Projects: There are people and businesses out there that need your input, help and time.

Contribute and see if you can squeeze a link in somewhere.
Quizzes: Who doesn’t love quizzes? Don’t think quizzes can make you a back-link titan? BuzzFeed disagrees!

Research Papers: A little more specialized and fancier than e-zine Articles, but it’s the same ideas. Start with a need for information and solve it, academic style.

Case Studies: People love to hear a success story, so give it to them. Even if you don’t succeed, post about the process. People learn even more from failure than they do success.

Create Controversy: Get noticed and turn some heads by being controversial. Of course, don’t be fake. People can smell trolls coming a mile away.

Offer Help: In your great link-building quest, if you find someone in need of help, give it to them. Helping people fix website errors, getting rid of malware or solving other problems can lead to great relationships. I once saw an AdWords ad for a business 300 miles away. I contacted the business owner and let him know he should readjust his ad settings. Today, he’s a client and I have a link on his site.

Offer Discounts for Links: While this is technically buying links in some way, it can be very useful. Maybe a client, customer, supplier or other business partner isn’t 100% about giving you a link. Make it easy for them by giving them a discount on your product or service in exchange for a little link love.
Scholarships: You don’t have to have millions to set up and promote a small scholarship.

Trade Associations: Join trade groups in your industry (non-relevant ones would be silly and spammy) and see if they have website listings for members.

Event Recaps: If there has been a big event in your industry or that your visitors would care about, do a recap or live updates. You’re making yourself stand out as an authority.

Offline Marketing: Newspapers, radio, TV and many other offline channels can get more traffic to your sites and get you more links if you play your cards right. Example: Run a promotion to generate traffic to your site. Have a large call to action that leads to a page

Good Luck!
