elliedraws

elliedraws My work is inspired by buildings, machinery, food and animals, beginning with a pen drawing on location. I also work as an Art Teacher in London.

I create illustrations that are loose and observed, with a simplistic style. I always begin with pen and a sketchbook and draw quite quickly to maintain the initial feeling evoked by the subject matter. It's about capturing a moment. I then use digital media to prepare my drawings for silk screen or digital printing, and moving into lino more recently. I have made tote bags, prints and tea towels,

as well as greeting cards, but the range is always under development. See my Etsy shop or catch me at a market to buy. www.etsy.com/shop/elliedraws

While sketching this the 3 men next to me started discussing how different people might perceive the tree a s some might not notice it. Then they went on to talk about people, mental health and how they were all doing. They didn’t really dig deep or uncover much but it seemed for them to be a rare moment of openness. Wow. Just from watching someone draw a tree 🤩❤️

Drawing while watching tv with cosy slippers and still a Christmas tree. You might spot a festive Belgian biscuit tin, scandi tea light holder, hand cream, a candle, succulent, water, oils and a bag of unpopped corn kernels. Random.

I spent much of my illustration focus of 2023 practising with new and long time favourite materials, exploring styles and working out what I love to revive my passion for drawing. What I’ve come to realise is, a lot of it is about WHAT I draw and, as I’ve always known, drawing from life.

I’m going to post 3 drawings a week minimum along the lines of this one: from life, my life, and real stuff that’s just there.

This one is the bit of washing up that was left undone after I did a ton of washing up. Because the dishwasher broke a few months ago and we’re still waiting for the new one to be installed. Welcome to my kitchen.

Clocking off for Christmas, and I hope yours is a merry and messy by the end S this scene would suggest 🤪🥂Cheers!
