" The Missing Twin ".

Hotspur Tower in Alnwick had, at one time, a twin, sited at the bottom of Clayport ( called Clapott in 1474 ).
The Clayport Tower is recorded as being similar to, but larger than Hotspur Tower.
There was a well called Kidlands Well in a recess in the Tower. the Tower had many uses, a Gilds meeting room, a Poor House in 1785 and as a temporary jail, to name a few.
The Clayport Tower survived until 1804 when it was demolished. The Well became a Pant in the road but sadly this was demolished by a runaway horse and cart.
The site of the Tower was marked by four inscribed , oblong paving stones, but these were also removed at a later date.
